'Big brother' to the award-winning Chung Ying Garden on Thorp Street, this was the first Chinese restaurant in Birmingham to cater to both Western and Chinese tastes. Situated in the heart of Chinatown, it opened in 1981 and the menu here adds up to more than 300 dishes. The restaurant caters for up to 350 people on two floors with the focus firmly on the food.

Ethnic restaurants often get overlooked when it comes to handing out awards but this Cantonese restaurant boasts an AA rosette and listings in both the Good Food Guide and Hardens. Established in 1987, Chung Ying Garden offers a vast selection of dishes (including supposedly the most comprehensive Chinese menu in Britain) and seats 350 people over two floors in what was formerly the Thorp Street army barracks. Chung Ying Cantonese on Wrottesley Street is a sister restaurant.

Ego have opened their first Mediterranean restaurant outside the northwest in Lichfield. It's their most picturesque venue to date with fantastic views of the Minster and Minster Pool as well as huge windows that fold back in summertime. Expect the winning Ego formula of exciting Mediterranean food served up in a relaxed and chilled ambience. The new Ego Mediterranean Restaurant in Kenilworth is situated on the high street of this historic town and surrounded by plenty of accessible car parks. Itihaas opened in Birmingham city centre in 2005 and has beaten off national competition to win various awards -- Newcomer of the Year at the Best In Britain Awards 2005 and the British Curry Awards 2006 and Best Restaurant in the 2007-2008 Cobra Good Curry Guide. This super-stylish venue marries crisp, clean decor with 18th and 19th century Indian artefacts, and Head Chef Powvan Shama has crafted an exciting menu drawing on North India, Mumbai, Chinese Fusion and Kenya for inspiration. Kinnaree Thai Restaurant enjoys a great location not far from the Mailbox and Broad Street overlooking the Birmingham & Worcester canal. And with floor-to-ceiling glass windows it certainly makes the most of the views. Inside, it's a real oasis of calm, decorated throughout in sumptuous style with authentic Thai statues and artefacts. The a la carte menu stretches to more than 100 dishes and there is a choice of five set menus too. It's open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and right through from noon til late at weekends. The Kinnaree itself is a mythical Thai being, half woman and half swan.

The Beeches Bar & Grill at Hampton-in-Arden has one of the best views in the Solihull area and a great decked area where you can dine al fresco and make the most of it. The restaurant is open every day for lunch and dinner with an extensive menu that includes six different types of steaks and five grilled fish options as well as sharing plates, salads and tapas dishes.
