Chung Ying Garden

Ethnic restaurants often get overlooked when it comes to handing out awards but this Cantonese restaurant boasts an AA rosette and listings in both the Good Food Guide and Hardens. Established in 1987, Chung Ying Garden offers a vast selection of dishes (including supposedly the most comprehensive Chinese menu in Britain) and seats 350 people over two floors in what was formerly the Thorp Street army barracks. City Cafe

Birmingham's City Inn opened in 2001, the third in an award-winning chain of business hotels renowned for their focus on contemporary design. The 238-room hotel is ideally located in the heart of Brindleyplace and in the City Cafe has a stylish haven serving Modern British cuisine.
