The Samling, Windermere
Recommended by
Northern Foodie
We got married at the Samling, having eaten there a couple of times before. It absolutely lived up to our expectations: wonderful food, great wines, and superb service. Our guests enjoyed all the wonderful bedrooms and we had the time of our lives. We'll be back!
The Cook House, Windermere

Here's somewhere to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner (which is useful when it's pouring with rain all day). Great English breakfast, and the dinners were just as good - perfectly cooked fish, and a fat steak. Excellent!

Four In Hand, Keswick

When we went there, the pub was initially quiet and we wondered if this was an omen but no worries, the food was excellent and the pub was soon busy. We both had the gammon which you had the option of either fried egg or pineapple but we were given the added option of both so took that option, a great meal, we also had a side order of garlic bread which was very nice too. We will certainly go back there next time we visit Keswick.

We ate here for my boyfriends birthday. It was absolutely fan-tast-ic! I left the restaurant not too full i felt sick and not too empty that i was still hungry. Everything was perfect. Can't fault it at all, i recommend this hidden gem to all! I'll be going back!

Surprised there aren't more reviews for this place, excellent food, well prepared and reasonably priced. As frequented by Charlotte Doughty, doesn't come more highly commended than that !

Villa Colombina, Grasmere

My family and I visited during the day after looking around Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum, it is ideally located just on the car park at Town End. A very interesting building with unique hand painted mural's along the walls, high beamed ceilings and a warm Mediterranean decor. It offered an inviting retreat from all the rain. Delicious home made cakes including banana and walnut cake and gigantic fruit scones. Staff were happy to help and friendly despite the terrible weather!
