Under new ownership since September 2006, it's now run by Duncan Poyser (ex-Obsidian) and John Rebecchi (ex-Bridge Hotel, Prestbury) who first met when they worked together at the Alderley Edge Hotel. John handles front-of-house with Duncan running the kitchen brigade and they are offering a stylish Modern British fine dining experience spiced up with just a hint of the Med. An 80-bin wine list ably matches menus that are built around local produce. Akbars is a veritable legend in Bradford where it first opened as a tiny 13-table restaurant in 1995. Since then it's expanded to two restaurants in Leeds, Sheffield, York and now Manchester where the swanky new venue on Liverpool Road provides a stylish city centre alternative to Rusholme's Curry Mile. It has a real contemporary feel with polished wooden floors, leather seating and funky lighting along with a sprinkling of Indian artefacts including a huge Buddha. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed with an emphasis on quality food and friendly and efficient service, with the well-trained staff providing each table with a high level of personal attention. The open-plan kitchen produces a relatively small selection of dishes for an Indian restaurant with the focus on freshness and value-for-money. Alberts Shed

Alberts Shed may seem an odd name for what is essentially an Italian restaurant but this new and purpose-built Castlefield venue is named after the owner of the tool shed that once occupied the site. Albert stored his tools here during the renovation of Dukes 92 next door and apparently agreed to move his shed on the condition that the restaurant was named after him. The result is a stylish city centre restaurant located in a picturesque and secure location on Castlefield canal basin. It's big, bright and airy, can seat up to 180 people and is open every day for lunch and dinner. The menu is largely Italian with a good choice of pizzas, pasta and risottos as well as a more international range of starters and mains. Andalucia on Warrington’s Bridge Street is a Mediterranean restaurant serving mainly Lebanese and Moroccan food. It opened in September 2006 and the chef here used to cook at a 6-star hotel in Dubai.
