Saleem’s…what a place…I’ve been going there since 1976…my only disappointment has been with some of the ouanqueres who occasionally got in there. Abdul Waheed, rest his soul, allowed us in there when all the restaurants in the area didn’t want scummy punk rockers anywhere near their sweet counters…talk about enlightenment and a good business sense. There has always been a bohemian aspect to B12- witnessed by the vibrancy of the local inhabitants and those who came once and either stayed or still hold it in their memory. There was a time when the whole cosmos revolved around the Ladypool road and those pounding together the atoms of this world were in Saleem’s.
…Of course the whirlwind ran the length of the street…what do you expect? When anything grows free there is always an irresistible force that will try to counter it. A hurricane get rid of Saleem’s?...are you having a larf? If you feel the need to look at the modern history of this country then go and sit in Saleem’s…the view aint what it used to be…but you might feel something… a glimpse of unity and colour-blindness. Oh yeah, the food is the perfect thing to pass the time away. Get that tandoori fish down ya...and the onions in tamarind…the meat curry is divine. Abdul, we salute you
