Have just had dinner with three friends. Excellent meal with first class service. Extensive menu. Can recommend highly. If using upstairs dining area take care on the stairs! Tom
Pomegranate is situated on Manchester Street in Kemp Town. It was a Tuesday night for our first time here but I decided not to take any chances and booked a table for 8pm. The restaurant was quiet, although on tasting the food we really couldnt understand why! From the moment we walked in the door til the moment we left, everything was superb! Zelal, our host, was lovely - you won't find a more friendly and welcoming host in Brighton. She allowed us to try a drop of the house white before we chose it- not something i have experienced in any Brighton restaurant before. The menu was extensive- you are sure to find something you like here. I chose grilled aubergine with goats cheese and peppers to start with, whilst my partner chose Salmon Fillet on Carpe leaves. For the main course I chose the Tagliatella (Chicken stuffed with feta on tagliatelli in a creamy sauce) and my partner took the Snapper. Everything was excellent and nicely served on big white plates. We really could not fault this restaurant in any respect. The service was great, the food was wonderful, and the place is nicely decorated with exposed brickwork giving it a cosy feel yet still modern at the same time. We will definitely return! Koksy
I can't begin to tell you what you are missing out on if you haven't been to this restaurant! Pomegranite is a family-run restaurant - you will be greeted by the beautiful Zelal or one of her sisters, and it's immediately clear that the restaurant is a labour of love. The care and attention given to every aspect of it - from the decor to the music and not least the food - is exquisite. The cuisine is Middle Eastern - Kurdish - and draws on the chef's experience of other cuisines from around the world. The sweet and tangy pomegranite fruit is used in almost every dish. Both meat-eaters and vegetarians are catered for. On my visits I think I have now tried every item on the starter menu (!) - fried aubergine with yoghurt mint and garlic; tabulli, apricots, walnuts, bulgur wheat, parsley; prawn grilled with dates, walnuts and a pomegranate juice (amazing!) and smoked salmon fillet with goats cheese, dill and pomegranite juice. For mains I have eaten the sizzling vegetables (veggies are catered for!) and a slow-roasted lamb shank cooked the Kurdish way. The food is filling and I've only once managed to make it to desert - a gorgeous chocolate pistachio cake. There's also a fantastic wine list! An experienced traveller and very talented artist, do ask to meet the chef - Hassan - if you can. If you want gorgeous food, fantastic hospitality and/ or to impress someone with your good taste, I promise you you will not go home disappointed with this restaurant! Rochelle
