Fiesta Havana brings a piece of Cuba to Chester city centre. It’s located right on Watergate Street in former wine cellars and with its bare brick walls and trendy lighting it’s a popular choice with the twenty- and thirty-something crowd. Open from noon every day until 1am or 2am, it’s the place to go for late night eating and drinking with the full menu served until 11pm and tapas available right though to closing time. Popular menu choices include sizzling fajitas and paella and to accompany the food there’s a great choice of mocktails, cocktails, shooters, beers, wines and – of course – mojitos. The staff are friendly and well-trained and it’s Happy Hour on drinks between 5pm and 8pm, Sunday to Friday.

Oswalds Restaurant is located above the Helter Skelter pub in central Frodsham. The restaurant kitchen team headed by Nik Broome also looks after the bar food for the pub. The pub itself is a temple to quality beer from around the world, is rated by CAMRA and has real ales on rotation with the 8 cask ale pumps being able to serve up to 20 different beers a week. There is also a regularly changing range of quality bottled beers from Belgium, Germany and around the world. You can enjoy a lunch and dinner menu in the pub which covers substantial sandwiches including home roasted beef and ham and homemade fish fingers. Also on offer are classic pub favourites such as beer battered haddock with hand cut chips and steak and ale pie. Oswalds restaurant can be accessed via the pub or through a separate entrance. Named after chef patron Nik’s grandad, Oswalds offers modern European menus with world influence. Nik and his team are passionate about using local, seasonal produce and make everything in-house from scratch - soups, stocks, sauces and desserts. The menu changes every month and offers something for every taste. There is a Mediterranean feel to the menu with starters of breads and dips, olives, antipasto and crayfish bruschetta, with other choices being Thai spiced fish cakes with chilli dip and scallops, wilted greens, sesame and Teriyaki marinade. Mains offer steaks from the grill with a choice of sauces, hand cut chips and sides of your choice. There are homemade burgers, other pub favourites and plenty of vegetarian choice. Other mains include market fresh seabass, coley and salmon dishes, roast rump of lamb or breast of duck. The wine list is well chosen and has 20 bins with house wine by the glass.

Situated in the picturesque village of Bowdon, Swadesh is a modern and sophisticated Indian restaurant housed in a characterful mock-Tudor building. It’s a romantic venue spread over two floors and is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. The menu offers dishes from right across the subcontinent including specialities like Gosth Kaliyan, shredded lamb tossed with onion, tomatoes, black pepper and aromatic masala. Swadesh has an al fresco dining area, a private dining room (35 seated/60 for cocktails) and the stylish Swadesh Bar where you can enjoy a pre- or post-meal drink. Swadesh is part of a group of south Manchester restaurants that was founded nearly 20 years ago. Sister restaurants include Sangam in Heald Green and Sanuk Thai, Sangam 2 and Sajna Indian Kitchen in Didsbury.

The Coterie is located in Widnes just of the A557. This well established neighbourhood restaurant is run by husband and wife team David and Christine Tearle, both passionate about food and hospitality. Coterie translates as a circle of friends and that's exactly what you feel like when you are in the restaurant, you are treated like an old friend and you can use this warm and inviting venue in many ways; drop in day or night for a light bite from the wine bar that has a fantastic selection of fantastic freshly baked bread, gourmet cheese, tapas, simple hearty fayre and extensive wine list. Dine in the main restaurant with its open fire and farmhouse kitchen feel, choosing from the great value Table d'Hote menu or the more accomplished A la Carte. 'The Orangery' is a separate space used for meetings and functions as well as for more contemporary dining in a setting with dark wood tables and modern leather chairs. Whichever you choose, David and his team of eight chefs are producing great food using top quality produce and cooking with passion and Christine adopts a relaxed, professional and friendly efficiency. Sunday lunch here is a local favourite. Open Tuesday-Saturday 12-2.30pm for lunch and 6-9.30pm for dinner. Sunday lunch 12-3.15 and dinner 6-9pm.
