The best way of sharing this experience is to publish the complaint EMail and their reply: To the owner/manager,We booked a table at your restaurant on Friday 19th October for 7.30pm and having been there twice before had certain expectations of a relaxed evening and a nice meal. Unknown to me, my partner had asked for a quiet table as he intended to propose, which he did in the Swan Hotel where we were staying, just prior to going to Christianos. This obviously delayed us somewhat, but we telephoned you at 7 oclock to say that we would be delayed and would be there between 8 and half past 8. The female who took the message explained that it was "not a problem". We arrived at 8.15, obviously very excited as we had just become engaged and this became a topic of conversation. The first time we were asked for our order we explained we hadn't even looked at the menu and would need some more time if possible. This was, again, "not a problem". The second time we were asked for our order we were recommended the fish cakes which we both ordered followed by two steaks. We were quickly shown to our table and almost immediately the fish cakes arrived. It was obvious that those fishcakes could not possibly have been cooked properly and after testing the centre of both found them to be cold in the middle. They were send back and returned reheated. As we were eating our starter we were amazed when the waiter brought out our main courses and stunned when he suggested he put them down on the table next to us and leave them there for when we were ready! We asked him why he had brought them out when we were so obviously still eating our starter and he advised us that "chef finished work at 9.30". He was told in no uncertain terms to take them back. We were later told by a more senior person that he had thought we would be ready and therefore told chef to cook our main course. Neither excuse is good enough. As soon as we had finished the starter our plates were whisked away and the same dinners which had obviously been kept warm under a hot plate, or similar, were returned to us complete with skin over the Diane sauce. I can't believe that any chef worth his salt would be prepared to churn out dinners before customers were ready so that he could finish on time. I'd love to know where he trained. At no point during the evening did anyone say that chef finished so early and if they had we would simply have skipped the starter and there wouldn't have been a problem. Everyone else must have known we would have to have to eat our starters really quickly, even had they been cooked properly the first time they came out! To add insult to injury, just after we had had our dinner plates taken away, (mine had been barely touched) we were asked if we wanted the desert menu!!!??We can never have that night again, it should've been very special. Had it been any other night we would have complained at the time, but it had been spoilt enough. Had we not been away for the past week you would have received this complaint last Saturday. It's worthy of note that there was no hint of an apology from anyone on the night! Our hope is that the £75 you charged us for this appalling experience is refunded. We waited 10 days for this reply:I have read and reviewed the details given to me from you with such a complaint I like to get the whole picture so I have spoken to everyone involved which is why my response is delayed. I'm going to stick straight to point on the facts, it is clearly stated we have a last orders at 9.30. Every restaurant does and it is just unfortunate you weren't told that's why we wanted to get your order taken surely that would have made sense as two people did try. After an already busy service your order was the last to be taken which you were running late for over an hour. The fish cakes are fresh like all our food, they were freshly made that day and are cooked in a very hot fryer. The chef who cooked them said they were not cold and as did the manager who took them back. You were then sent another fish cake. You had finished your starter and there was nothing to be eaten on that plate. The chefs send out the mains or at least start to cook them on a time limit it usually takes someone to finish their starter. And as it seems to me the chefs should have not sent out the main course until you were ready to me that was bizarre as well. I have taken up the correct actions and I am not happy what so ever this had happened, but your attitudes towards the Owner after you received the main course after he asked if everything was okay to your Fiancée's reply "I don't need an audience while I eat." It was rude, disrespectful and you can understand why no refund will be given. He at this point was unaware to your starter going back. The usual case of not mentioning this at the time has deemed this irrelevant to fix after the time has passed. The owner, manager and myself were present. And just for your peace of mind of feeling this hasn't reached the highest level the owner had read this and given several comments above. Thank you for your time. Dominique RosePersonal Relations Manager Christiano'sTo address the issue of my fiancée being "rude and disrespectful"..... The owner and waiter were stood at our table watching him eat and yes, he did say that. They both apologised and left the table. He was neither rude NOR disrespectful.
