Recently named by Conde Nast, the ‘Best Leisure Hotel in the British Isles’, Buckland Manor, near Broadway, dates back to the thirteenth century. Set in glorious grounds featuring immaculate gardens with a running stream, small waterfalls, croquet lawns and tennis courts. Buckland Manor overlooks the archetypal Cotswolds village of Buckland, a smaller version of nearby Broadway but without the hordes of visitors. A real retreat, Buckland provides peace and tranquility, combined with international standards of comfort and service. Dining here is special; head chef Matt Hodgkins sources the finest local produce available from the neighbouring Vale of Evesham and makes use of fresh herbs grown in the Manor's own grounds. His award-winning dishes on the seasonal restaurant menu feature a mix of English cuisine with European influences. Typical A la Carte starters of pan fried Cornish scallops, glazed baby fennel tart tatin with cauliflower puree and confit belly of pork, local black pudding, sage and onion bonbon with apple dressing, sit well with mains of roasted loin of Monkfish, chorizo rosti potato, tempura squid and tomato jus and roast fillet of new season Cotswold Lamb, Savoy cabbage, mint and caper jus. As one would expect absolutely everything is made in house including the indulgent desserts and even the Buckland Manor ice creams. The wine list here is a major achievement and features nearly 500 bins plus 105 half bottles. It has attracted awards from The Wine Spectator with the Champagne selection being awarded ‘Champagne Taittinger Wine List of the Year Award 2010’. Awards | 2 AA Rosettes
