Stayed in Millom this past weekend (24th - 27th April '09) and after being let down by our Hotel (they weren't cooking Friday evening) we were recommended Beswicks. What a joy the place is. The restaurant welcomes you the minute you put foot through the door and the service and food were excellent. You're made to feel very special and David is an enigma - how does he find the time to sleep? If you've been there and had the privilege of conversing with David, you will know what I mean. Would recommend it to anyone and everyone, Go - you will not be disappointed.

We had hardly eaten all day as we thought we were going to our favourite local pub for tea but having been turned away from two due to them being fully booked we had almost resigned ourselves to having beans on toast! We pulled up and my brother spotted Beswicks, the rest of us were not convinced as the wild wind and heavy rain beat down on the car windows.
We eventually decided to go in, the best meal experience decision we could have made.
Right from the start Joanne made us feel very welcome and accommodated our every awkward request.
The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was intimate and the service was unbeatable. It is also excellent value for money.
We cannot wait to our next visit, this is one place where you will want to eat at again and again....I have already decided what I am having next time!

I was just up for a bit of climbing and felt like having a change from the usual pub meal so thought I'd give Beswicks a try. What a lucky decision, probably one of the best restaurant meals I've ever had,

Beswicks is a rare treasure, a first class gem of a restaurant. Refreshingly untrendy and quaint it is evident that this restaurant has been built on love, pride and good old fashioned customer care and service. I have never been to a restaurant that scores so highly for the overall dining experience. Yes the food was lovely but even more impressive was the attention to detail in so many ways. David is indeed the perfect host and has the place operating like a well oiled machine, yet as a customer you don't feel like a number, you feel that you are being treated to a very special evening. I cannot praise this restaurant highly enough.

My second visit to this Restaurant in the heart of Broughton in Furness The atmosphere was outstanding and as it was our wedding anniversary it was a special evening. The starters local smoked meat and an interesting vegetarian salad mix expertly presented followed by Their duck with rhubarb and ginger sauce and quail both perfection and the sweets were to die for. The website does not do it justice. We have eaten in all the pubs and local eateries and this surpasses all! The prices are incredibly low comparatively too. Just a tip! if parkings bad in the Square area, park in Foxfield road there is often a lot of space there. This place is thoroughly recommended.

Beswicks! What an evening, Comfy sofas, log fires, fabulous food! You should never just pass through Broughton-in-furness you would miss a real treat. Thank you David once again excellent food.

Our evening at Beswicks, in a group of 6, was memorable. From the comfy sofas and drinks on arrival, through the excellent meal in a cosy, welcoming environment, to the after-dinner coffee and chat with David, the host. And, as a diver, has he really built a community of gnomes, complete with picket fencing, deep under water in Wastwater? I guess we'll never know! But we'd love to come back on our next visit to the area.

I would like to ask one question why is this place not in the major guides. Its quirky its true but the food is excellent (simple and well presented) the wine list WOW service great unhurried but attentive, and lord knows you need to be unhurried if you are going for several courses. Some strange conbinations but they work and HOW.Everything was exemplary. The abiance has to be unique, one feels totally at home. By the way the bar is very well stocked. Choice of Brandies and Malts really good. We will be back soon.

When we asked my parents where they would like to spend their Golden Wedding Anniversary, they Said only one place would do, Beswicks We have been many times, and every time you are made to feel so very special. David looked after us in his usual caring and considerate manner, and nothing was any trouble to him or his team. We had a memorable evening, and my parents will never forget it. Thanks so much, and for any one out there, who has not yet tried the Beswicks experience, try it, you definitely will not be disappointed. Peter Holland and family

Celebrated my birthday there with husband & friends - couldn't have chosen a more enjoyable venue. Very laid back and relaxing evening. Particularly liked the break between courses ( 5 of them !).
Not the least pretentious.
Excellent choice of food & wine and very well stocked bar.

What a wonderful way to round off the festive season with an excellent meal in a friendly, local restaurant where personal service is a priority and food is beautifully cooked and presented and tastes perfect.
The atmosphere was warm, relaxed and unhurried - a perfect evening.

Had two wonderful meals over the Christmas period with different groups of people and everybody was very impressed (28 people in total) the lamb melted in your mouth and the cheeseboard the best I`ve ever seen. Looking forward to another reason to celebrate!!

My first visit was only a few months ago and I have been twice since. Had the Bistro menu one night different from the normal menu in content and presentation. Excellent . Had the main menu the other occasion and was again blown away it was stunning. There was a big office party in that night and it did not affect the service and everything was perfect. Still can not believe the price is so low

After sampling restaurants for over 60 years including ones on the QE2. Beswicks is surely one of the best, we cant recommend it highly enough. We are made to feel so special every time we visit, the choice and quality of the food is excellent. And for a restaurant of its quality the prices are remarkable.

Well what can we say, this place is fantastic, better than any restaurant in miles. It is a favourite with all the family and we have been many times, every meal is out of this world, the service is outstanding and you are made to feel so welcome.

We can't really recommend this restaurant to anybody. This is a little gem that we'd like to keep to ourselves! Excellent food, great selection of quality wines and spirits, and a congenial host combine to make this restaurant one of the best in the Furness area.

We have been to Beswicks many times before but this time we had our relations from Australia with us and they could just not believe the quality and value for money that Beswicks give. Excellent food as always and paced just right - not rushed, giving plenty of time to appreciate the food and chat. Lovely atmosphere - just like being in your own dining room.

Visited this Restaurant on one of these recommendations lived in area, never been. Wife and I were made to feel welcome as we arrived it was clear many of the guests knew the staff. We had a drink in the very comfortable lounge area and made our choices from the menu. As soon after a short while we were shown to our table. I did not realise the place was so big yet so cosy. Our meal was exquisite excellent food presented simply My wife had Gressingham duck cooked pink at the owners recommendation and I had Fillet steak. The like of either we had never experienced they where fantastic and to be recommended. The sweets were also fantastic clearly made to order as well. We could not manage cheese but the board looked incredible. We had coffee in the lounge afterwards even the coffee was remarkable. It was our anniversary and we had a truly magical evening.

Having been to Beswicks on several occasions no visit to Broughton in Furness would be complete without. The whole experience is lavish without costing the earth. Far superior to any of the pubs around, although they are very good, Beswicks is in a class of its own.

Having been cosseted at Beswicks one certainly leaves feeling well looked after and well fed it is THE PLACE to eat in Furness for an all round experience. The ambiance was fantastic The food excellent (quality presented simply, with vegetables etc silver served) The wine list was so good it was difficult to choose. The service was attentive and just right with most things being done for you without asking.

No stay in Broughton is complete without dinner at Beswicks. Good sensible menu with the food well cooked presented and served. And do chat, if he has time, to the Proprietor, a man of many parts.
