Just to note this restaurant has closed and re-opened as Da Vinci's. Still Italian and other European cuisine, very good food but the ambience is not quite as relaxed & cosy, more chic & modern.

After receiving a postcard from friends inviting me to La marina which entitled me to a glass of wine with my meal,me and my partner decided to give it a go
On a very wet October evening it was lovely to enter a warm, friendly environment which instantly reminded us of our recent trip to Tuscany.
It was obvious from conversations between staff and customers that there is alot of regular clientele ,thus developing a friendly atmosphere.
We found the staff pleasant and efficient and nothing was to much trouble.
We both chose traditional pasta dishes and were not disappointed at both the quality and portion size.
Overall it was a very pleasant affordable evening and have recommended it to our friends by sending them a promotional postcard.

Had a fantastic meal at La Marina last night. This was one of many visits and the food has always been second to none. The service is wonderful and the staff have always got time for a chat and a laugh. Very child friendly. I thoroughly recommend!!!
PS: If the staff are reading this, I will expect a pretty good dessert next time! Ha ha...

Myself and partner visited La Marina in Grange earlier this week. We're both big fans of Mediterranean flavours and appreciate a more authentic dining experience - which is exactly what we found at La Marina! The setting is great, terecotta tiling, unstuffy but well presented tables and an upbeat but unintrusive Italian soundtrack made for the perfect atmosphere. I started with an Italian classic, meatballs in a rich tomato sauce - and it didn't disappoint. In fact it rates right up there with one of the best. The meatballs where full of flavour, not over spiced or peppered and to say they were of good meaty proportions would be an understatement - but the tomato sauce was the real star of this dish. A fantastic balance of a rich textured herby tomato base with a gently simmering chilli heat beneath - just enough to reach for the chilled glass of Peroni but not to overstate the dish. My partner elected to stay safe given we'd heard the portions we're generous, opting for a selection of marinated stuffed olives with freshly baked breads and oil - accompanied by a fine and well chilled glass of house Pinot Grigio. Choosing the main courses was no easy task, I was torn between the chargrilled seabass or halibut with mushroom and asparagus cream, but elected from the specials of the day with chargrilled chicken breast with tomato, roasted peppers and mozzarella. My partner couldn't resist her favourite, veal saltimboca. Both dishes were served with a selection of vegetables, all al dente, the broccolli was particularly good, and the pan fried potatoes sung with a gentle coating of garlic. My chicken was moist and flavoursome as chargrilled meat is, but again it was the sauce that stole the show! The blend of roasted peppers was set off perfectly against the sumptuous tomato and wasn't over herbed as can be the case.
Enough was had by all, despite the chiller cabinet brimming with temptation. The service was cheerful and unhurried, we were last to leave but felt under no pressure of watchful eyes, quite the contrary, the Chef 'Aldo' came out to share his passion of Italian music much to our amusement. La Marina promises to deliver the real taste of Italy - as if you where there - and it wasn't until we stepped back out in to a wet windswept Lake District night that we realised we had indeed spent a night in Italy. Perfecto.

This small friendly restaurant is local to us and has never let us down. The atmosphere is welcoming to families, large parties, couples and even single diners. The food, cooked by a chef from Rome, is always excellent and they are willing to adjust dishes to cater for preferences. I have been in for lunch, family dinner and celebration party and only one person complained - they could not manage all their calzone! Also their house red is excellent.
