A quiet and tranquil cafe in the bustling village of bowness, we were blown away by the flavours this owner-run cafe could get in its lunches. Absolutely brilliant to find a cafe where veggie people can get a choice - something so rare in the lakes! An awesome lunch, cooked fresh on the premises by a really friendly and knowledgable (and charmingly shy!) cook. We would definitely recommend this cafe to vegetarians and meat eaters alike, as the flavours of the food and the selection are second to none!

This is a most welcoming cafe in a quiet location just beyond the shops on the Windermere road. The atmosphere is friendly and the fayre varied with some delicious home made cakes and the coffee is excellent. It also has Internet facilities.
This is one of the best cafes in England.

My friend and I visited for lunch on a whirlwind day trip to Windermere and were very grateful to have chosen the Elephant and Camel. The lady, Kerry, makes real chai tea from real ingredients (ie not just a tea bag) which in our book is exceptional! The food was also nice and reasonably price. Of course there is wi-fi Internet access available too. Definitely check it out

I am vegan and found this place when I was walking in the Lake District with my boyfriend, Zach , who is vegetarian. It had great freshly made food, plenty of choice for us. The Moroccan soup was particularly yummy! The lady was very friendly and we had a bit of a chat. The whole place has a cosy, worldly, hippie feel to it and I instantly felt quite at home. Definitely check it out, its also a little bit past the busy section of the street so you can get a bit of peace if that's your thing.

Really useful Internet cafe at the top end of Bowness on the road to Windermere. Also sells good homemade cakes and sandwiches with a decent cup of coffee.
Definitely worth crossing the road for.

I can't recommend this place highly enough. It's got delicious, home made sandwiches, soups and some amazing cakes! The owners are very friendly also. I was part of a group who had a day to kill before our train home left, and they allowed us to sit in their cafe for several hours, chatting to us. Definitely worth at least one visit, if not more.

Friendly, informal and relaxing - and the best coffee I have tasted for a long time. Nice home-made cakes etc too. A refreshing change from the current plague of high priced 'metropolitan hard-edged, 'trendy' cafes.

Definitely the friendliest and most welcoming cafe. If you enjoy good coffee and even better cakes to go with it,together with a warm and inviting atmosphere, then the Elephant and Camel is the place to go. The friendly, personal service is a treat in itself before you even start on the food and drink, which is homemade and delicious. Well worth crossing over the road to visit, don't just walk by on the other side as you won't know what you are missing .

Nice friendly atmosphere at the Elephant & Camel - opened by Kerry earlier this year. We liked the selection of differing teapots, sourced locally, and the cakes made by Kerry.
Easy access if you have a pram just be careful crossing the road as there isn't much of a pavement that side of the road.
