We spotted the sign for the The Flintlock on a long (Fridy night) journey to Cornwall. What a find - perfect for a relaxing meal in comfortable surroundings full of character. The fun starts as you walk around the menu boards, drink in hand, to make a choice with advice from regular customers indicating that everything is good!! They were right - the food was great, well presented and with generous portions
Two courses later and two very contented travellers continued on their way.
We saw a sign on the A303 directing us to The Flintlock Inn, just inside the Devon border. This was a real find. The pub was full of character, with a wood burner and bread oven. The owner was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were attentive and friendly. The french onion soup was the best we'd ever tasted and the Sunday roast was plentiful and truly delicious. We couldn't manage a third course! I always like to check out the toilets to make sure they're of a good standard and these didn't disappoint. They were well decorated, very clean with fresh flowers. I'll be recommend this pub to all my friends and we'll certainly be stopping there again when en route up the A303.

We enjoyed a superb meal on new year's eve with live music and a wonderful atmosphere. The pub was packed and the owners meryl and paulo were wonderful hosts. 10 of us enjoyed a fabulous evening and we have booked for next year. A truly great experience!!!
We have eaten at the Flintlock Inn on three occasions whilst on our way back from Plymouth. Excellent all round except for one small detail........the music. If you are not a Carpenters fan, then continuous Karen can be too much!
We plan our trips from London down to the West Country to coincide with the Flintlock Inn's opening times! It's only seconds off the A303, excellent and friendly service and the most superb, fresh food. Very good value too considering the quantity and quality of the food. They have two chefs dedicated to making puddings alone. You're in for a treat.
Taking a short break at a local B&B, we thought that we would try the local pub - boy are we glad that we did. We had an excellent home cooked meal, the pub was very busy but it was well worth the wait. This was on a Sunday night, and as we were staying for one more day we made a note of what was on offer for the next evening from a varied menu. Only problem was, the Flintlock is closed on Mondays, never mind - we now have an excuse to return later in the year to sample another of the tasty dishes on offer.
We only go out to eat at the Flintlock. We have tried other local restaurants but this place is the best. One gets a warm welcome, all home cooked food is of a very high standard and reasonably priced. It is popular so book well in advance in order not to be disappointed.
