Don’t be fooled by its pub guise, this is one of the most accomplished restaurants in Devon, located on the outskirts of Exeter, it is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Passionate head chef Matthew Mason, who cut his teeth at Le Manoir and Gidleigh heads the kitchen team (check out Matt’s monthly recipes here). This is a quality, well-oiled machine that extols the virtues of top quality local seasonal produce and delivers results at every turn. The wine list alone makes it worth seeking out let alone the 2 AA Rosette cooking or the fact that it is the only pub in Devon to get the Michelin Bib Gourmand award for total quality at great value. Unmissable. Check out the Jack In The Green video A Day In The Life.

We celebrated our Sons 21st with a family dinner at the Jack recently and everyone had a very good meal, reasonable priced and a good selection of wine and Ales. Paul is a great host, his staff trained very well and its somewhere we always recommend. Andrew Mason Had a stunningly good lunch here recently. Rarely do I go to a restaurant and find choosing difficult but here there is so many appealing dishes I did have trouble. I opted for Tempura of Monkfish with a delicious dip to start followed by partridge which was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. For dessert I tried a taster plate of mini puddings which was too good. The service was exceptional, the staff engaged and passionate. If only I was local to the area, it is now my favourite restaurant. Bart i went with my partner for lunch weather was hot so we only went for a light bite. but i wanted to mention the quality of the desserts my partner a selection of sorbets and ice creams a selection of four all with fabulous fresh flavours you cant buy quality like that elsewhere. and i had the passion fruit assiette , a wonderfully light mousse melt in the mouth texture and remarkable flavour, a fantastic sorbet that cut through the tart like nothing i can describe they were truly remarkable and memorable. when we asked who had created such amazing treats we were told the pastry chef -Scott Paton is only nineteen ... WOW what a talent. john and marie holsgrove Unfortunately when I visited Jack In The Green it was on a quiet night. I prefer a little more vibrancy. However this didn't detract from the fact that this has to be the best food in the South West. Every bite was bliss! Kelly I Am We dropped in for lunch, it was unusually busy we thought considering its in the middle of nowhere, but, I suppose it is just outside of Exeter. It would have been very easy to spend but we used will power and held back. I had sausage and mash, it was fantastic, the quality of the sausages was staggering, apparently they are made just for them by a top local butcher. My partner (a Veggie) had what she referred to as brilliant, a tart of leek and goats cheese, we couldn’t resist puddings. We shared a selection of different passion fruit desserts that included sorbet, cheesecake and mousse, all presented on designer crockery and a mille feulle of berries with creme anglaise. I cant wait for the opportunity to go at night. bart
