C Fresh Fish & Chips is an award-winning restaurant and takeaway in Blackpool’s Foxhall Square with views out over the Irish Sea. The restaurant has a modern, bright and airy feel with large windows and it can seat up to 90 inside and 10 outside. It was refurbished in 2007 and they have also had a fantastic new cooking range installed. As you would expect, all the usual fish choices feature but they also offer burgers, grills, baked potatoes and main courses like lasagne and chilli. It is also open for breakfast. Fish-wise they support sustainability and use the best Norwegian haddock. C Fresh is licensed and sells beer and wine as well as real coffee. It recently received a five star Seafish Fish Fryers Award. Opening hours are from 8.30am until late night on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and from 11.30am until about 8pm other days.

Kays Knott End Chippy is situated just off the Esplanade in Knott End and as the address suggests enjoys views out over the Wyre estuary. It was taken over by the Kay family in July 2009 and new owner Michael Kay only uses fresh fish cooked to order using the family’s secret batter recipe. There is a takeaway counter and a cosy restaurant area that seats 14 and as well as cod, haddock, hake and plaice there is a choice of scampi, pies, steak puddings, sausages, burgers and chicken nuggets. Building on the success of Seniors in Normoss (a former North West Chippy of the Year), Fleetwwod fish merchants the Horabin family opened this purpose-built restaurant and takeaway in Thornton. Both venues offer more than 13 different varieties of fish on the menu, ranging from succulent cod to melt-in-the-mouth butterfish, delicate lemon sole and exotic angelfish as well as their signature John Dory. There are also non-fish and vegetarian options on the menu. The restaurant has coach-parking facilities, full disabled access and can seat up to 55 customers. Seniors has also opened a new Lytham venue.

The Haven Fish Restaurant on Alexandria Drive in St Annes has been run by John Burrows since 2007. It’s a traditional fish & chip shop with a takeaway counter to the front and an attractive 24-cover dining room to the rear. Unlike a growing number of fish & chip shops, the chips used are peeled and prepared on the premises, not bought-in, and you can pick up fish & chips, peas, bread & butter and a cup of tea here for just £5.50.
