This vibrant Spanish restaurant is perched on the waterfront at Southport, just steps away from Southport Theatre. A blend of casual and chic, it’s a great spot for family meals, romantic dinners or a quick bite pre- or post-theatre. Their approach to our food is best described as rustic Mediterranean with a modern contemporary edge which blends perfectly with the chic and modern design to create a unique Tapas experience. When weather allows, you can take your drinks outside or dine on the terrace taking in the splendid views across the water. The wine list at Finos has been carefully selected to demonstrate the quality and diversity of Spain. Wines from traditional regions such as Rioja, Navarra, Penedes and Jerez sit alongside new and innovative regions such as Rueda, Castilla and Rias Baixas sourced mainly from small, family owned Bodegas who take great pride in the quality of the wines they produce. Finos is open evenings Tuesday to Friday and right through from 11am onwards at the weekend.

My partner and I were delighted to hear that a new tapas restaurant had opened in Southport and were very keen to try it. Living not too far away from Finos meant that this could prove to be one of our regular haunts...should the food be up to it of course! Upon arrival we were shown to our table and offered drinks, which arrived promptly. I noted the decor - not your usual rustic, Spanish styled imitation. This place, is fresh, bold-coloured and modern. After placing our food order, we sat and waited patiently...whilst taking in the sights of delicious food being presented to other tables. Still we sat patiently. After approx 40 mins, the bread that we ordered finally arrived. It was delicious, although the accompanying aioli was rather scant. Another 20 min wait was to be experienced. We both noted that the restaurant was very busy (approx 90% tables occupied) but we didn't expect to be waiting this long. Finally, a staff member came over to us, apologized for the delay, stating that the kitchen was 'backed up' and that our food would be next. In addition, we were offered some drinks on the house by way of a softener. At this point, I do need to emphasize that the restaurant had only been open 2-3 weeks and it was evident that they were still experiencing a few teething problems. When the food arrived, we were blown away. It was gorgeous! The portion sizes are not as substantial as other tapas establishments that we have visited but this was definitely a case of quality rather than quantity. The morcilla (black pudding) and chorizo was the best we have ever tasted, the albondigas were superb, the stew really hearty and tasty. Everything was superb. The weakest dish was the baby ribs, but even these were still very good. Overall, a very enjoyable evening, slightly let down by the wait. It was nice though that it was identified and drinks offered as an apology. Still early doors for Finos, but if they address the issues - which I've no doubt they will - this could be start of something exciting. Craig And Jen
