Dorielli Arzu is passionate about bruschetta. So much so that in his new restaurant in Hesketh Bank – Dori's Domu (literally Dori's House), which opened in December 2016 – it's at the core of the menu. This isn't bruschetta as you know it though, an alternative starter to garlic bread, but rather a main course in its own right with 13 different varieties to choose from and a far superior alternative to the ubiquitous pizza. The bruschette are served on a wooden board and are around 9 inches long and priced from £6-£7.50, ranging from Ham & Mushroom and Tuna & Onions to Domu's (with chorizo, peppers, red onion and capers) and Casereccia (with ham, breaded aubergine and courgette and parmesan). For Dori, Sardinian by birth, it's all about the yeast and the timing of the dough, which he lovingly prepares fresh every day, which is much lighter than pizza. In fact pretty much everything on the menu is prepared in-house, except for the mozzarella. There is also lasagne (traditional or vegetarian), Panzerotto, Panozzo and Fagottino (similar to a folded pizza) and salads. Dori's Domu is fully licensed and has a selection of Italian wines as well as 11 different smoothies. It's situated across the car park from Hesketh Town FC and can seat 70 diners inside with another 24 al fresco. There's a large bar area and also three large red leather booths which are ideal for groups. Open 4pm to 10pm, Tuesday to Thursday and 12 noon to 10pm, Friday to Sunday.
Really enjoyed my bruschetta with chorizo, onions and capers. Wasn't sure what a bruschetteria was until I went. Basically better tasting pizzas. Really light and tasty! Will return and recommended.
