Evil staff for functions, landlords are friendly and bubbly people, but the bar staff at functions are terrible, unnaceptable and bullies! Unacceptable behaviour off one of them

Me and my fiance went here on a Wednesday night for a casual meal. When we arrived the woman at the bar was very welcoming and showed us to our table. We were given menus and ordered drinks. The staff were very attentive throughout our visit. the menu is simple but its all family favorites. I order the hunters chicken and then sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The food was absolutely gorgeous the best i have tasted you could tell it was home made. When it came to the bill it was only £32 for two of us to have a two course meal and 3 drinks each. Excellent value for money. The place was very quiet so i hope people hear about this place and keep it going as its my new favorite and I will be back very shortly.

We visited Tuesday 28/2/12 as a birthday treat. Sadly, we were disappointed as we arrived just after 6pm and the Menu stated that their chef George had now turned into Georgio the Pizza Chef. Unfortunately, our garlic bread starter was undercooked in the middle. For our main course the spicy chicken wings looked liked they had been cooked all day long and did not taste nice, the jacket potato tasted off and the cajun chicken pizza was also undercooked in the middle. Very disappointing and sad to think that years ago the Highgate was a really great place to eat. We did complain and only had to pay our drinks. The sad thing is we do not usually complain, but on this occasion we felt that we were left with no choice.

Went here for a casual Friday evening meal with my wife and daughter, and we were very impressed. A short, simple menu, but the food is clearly freshly made and cooked, and well presented. A really nice side salad accompanies most dishes. Service was friendly, prompt and attentive, and the bill of £32 for three of us having two courses and a drink represents excellent value. The Highgate was recommended to me by a colleague, and I shall now recommend it to others.

We attended the Highgate last Sunday for my dad's birthday, we were disappointed. We went at 3pm it was so quite, which was not a problem really but there was just no atmosphere. The service was nice when you got it !! We were constantly waiting for people to come over and remove plates etc at one point I actually moved them to the next table. Our original drink glasses were left on the table even after ordering more drinks. It was not busy, the service should have been spot on. At one point I walked to the kitchen and asked somebody to come and take our sweet order, which the young girl did but then did not take any of our plates or empty glasses away !!!!. The food was nice, home cooked., I would try it again, service needs to pick up please..

We had the Sunday roast with proper roasties, real gravy and generous portions. Gobsmacked at the quality for only 7.25 each! Back to being a pub at last, and with brilliant food! The other two in our party had the chef's pie and chef's seafood pie. Incredible pies made by the chef , as does most of the menu seem to be (home MADE not just home COOKED like a lot of places). Nice people. I asked about their wine menu, and it shows that it's put together for them by a wine merchant. not the brewery. I wish them well - we'll be back !
