O'Marleys Red Lion at Whitebirk is Blackburn's oldest historic inn and restaurant. It is classed as an ancient monument and was originally a Jacobean house, converted into an inn after 1735 and although not residential today, you can partake in refreshments and water your horses! The interior has all its original features with restored beams and log fireplaces. There is an eclectic mix of wooden and leather chairs and tables with banquette seating in comfortable bar areas. The main dining area has a vaulted ceiling with revealed beams and can seat 60. There is a snug which is sometimes used for private dining, parties, or functions and the walls feature pictures and photos of local history. The bar offers a good selection of cask ales, premium lagers and wines and foodwise there is a mix of great British pub classics, made using 'Granny's Special Recipes'. The past few months have seen the hugely successful launch of 'All you can eat Spanish Tapas nights'. These are booked up quickly and will continue to grow throughout 2013. There is a tremendous choice of approximately 40 different tapas. All are made on the premises to authentic regional recipes of Spain and the cost is £15.95 per person. Lashings of Sangria, Rioja and Salsa music make it a great fiesta evening. O'Marleys Red Lion was nominated for Food pub of the year 2012 and is now a member of the Gourmet Society.

The food and service was really good, as one of our guests cant eat wheat. The waitress asked the chef to do a wheat free fish pie, which he did and she said it was delicious! We will definitely go back. xenaboo 4 of us had a meal on the 23/july 2011, and found it excellent and very good value. Service was ever so friendly. Would recommend and always return.
