After awarding the first and so far only DLCC 10/10 to the Royal Spice a couple of weeks back, we returned to see if it could live up to its standard. Well what can we say. It maintained its service levels perfectly, the food was divine and we stand by our 10/10 rating. The experience we had is a credit to the staff and owners. Keep it up!!

Well what can we say. From walking through the door to a friendly welcome, the pleasant surroundings and absolutely incredible food we were really taken aback. As a club we travel across Yorkshire sampling food (mainly curries) and this restaurant is the first to have astounded us all with the flavours and quality of the food. four dishes we asked to be modified to our requirements and each was no problem whatsoever to the staff, and was served to each persons request. The Nawabi lamb was stunning, the chicken achar exquisite. All other dishes were being held in the highest regard. So much so that this restaurant has achieved the first ever DLCC 10/10 rating on all counts. Well done to everyone at the restaurant.

We have been to the Royal Spice loads of times and it has never let us down. Zaff and his staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is excellent and the prices very reasonable. Thank goodness we live in Darton.

The Royal Spice always comes up trumps, regardless of whether you eat in or take away. I hate curry made for the Brits ie: lacking in heat, spice and authenticity - the food at the Royal delivers on all counts. Try the Fish Karahi dish - amazing.

Having lived and worked in Bradford for many years I have sampled the full range of curry houses. From the cheap and cheerful to the top quality. This place is unbelievable as it can compete with the best Bradford can offer on both counts. Top quality food at rock bottom prices.

Maybe I am biased living in Darton but I have eaten Asian food in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, but this place for me beats them all.

Whatever you want, Imran will do.

Brilliant!

Send me the £5 Zaff and by the way Azzar says your not 27 but 43.

I don't care, keep the food the same we'll still keep coming.

We eat at the Royal spice every week with our young children. The staff are very friendly and the food always excellent. In particular the nan bread which is the nicest we have tried! I would recommend eating out at the Royal Spice as you will be guaranteed a great curry as a reasonable price!

Decided to try somewhere else instead of Sheffield for a change, and based on recommendations on Sugarvine tried this one in Darton.

What a great find, the food is simply made but cooked with great delicateness. My sisters Butter Chicken wasn't just an overpowering butter flavour but nicely nuanced. My Chicken Shashlick Karai had both the marinate and the curry flavour when you sampled it.

Overall a nice place, would happily recommend and will come back in the future. Note a buffet on a Sunday £7 for a variety of courses, take your pick.

The secret is out!, Best Indian restaurant in Yorkshire tucked away in little Darton! We used to many lovely places but we always admit, "Its NOT the Spice" and go back Good value and I'm a Scot (A Yorkshire man stripped of his generosity!) Brilliant!

I cannot believe how lucky we are to have such a wonderful restaurant in our village. I have never been for a meal here and been disappointed. The staff are always welcoming and every attention is given to any request. It has become by far the place for us to eat and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Every taste can be catered for - from the mildest dish to the hot and spicy selection that some prefer. It's so good we almost always order more than we can eat just so we can take some home and indeed where else would you find that when you have forgotten to take home your 'goodie bag' you arrive home to find that it has been delivered to your door!

This is, by far, probably the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. Food is excellent and is very well priced. The staff are great and the whole dining experience is fantastic. I recommend having a pickle tray and poppadoms before any meal, but also to try lamb methi aloo, and ask them to throw a few chick peas in with it too, the staff will go out of their way to provide you with pretty much anything you desire. EXCELLENT!!!

An undiscovered gem of a restaurant tucked away under a railway bridge just outside Barnsley. The decor is great, Zaf, Freddie and staff are very welcoming and friendly and the food is superb. We had very generous servings of the Nawabi Chicken and a chicken korma, both full of flavour and probably the nicest, lightest naan I have ever had, all for about £10, great value. We went on a Thursday night and the place was nearly full. We shall definitely be back.
