This is the email I sent to Bistro West 156 last week:

Hello,

Just a quick email to say how great your food was last night. I had the squash and chorizo soup, steak on a bed of saute potatoes and sticky toffee pudding. The soup was possibly the best I've ever had. The steak was delicious 'again with chorizos' which combined with the salad beautifully. The desert was extremely sweet and rich, but was toned down really well with the ice cream.

Delicious food, friendly service (not the fastest but excellence takes time), and reasonably priced. Keep up the great work! I'll definitely be coming again.

They do a really substantial and gorgeous veggie breakfast, making the effort to have veggie black pudding. Full English breakfast was fab with additional, triumphal potato cake. Service lovely. Would definitely come again.

Absolute hidden gem! Incredible food and delightful service.

About the best food I've had out for ages in South Manchester, including far more expensive restaurants. It's a plain, smallish room, friendly and informal, and run by nice people. The menu isn't large (a good sign) but everything they do is really topnotch, full of taste, fresh and zingy. Seven of us ate mid-week this evening (£17.50 for three courses) and amazingly not one dish was a dud.

My partner and I visited Bistro West 156 last night for the first time. Wow! It was a beautiful evening and we sat outside. The restaurant is small and quaint and the food was outstanding. Big portions and excellent value for money. You MUST try it

Wow!! Amazing food at an amazing. This is now our new favourite restaurant in Didsbury. 2 courses of this quality for £15?? Fantastic - you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic food, the portion size was spot on. The service was attentive and efficient. Good wine list. Everyone at my table had a lovely night. I would recommend the Moroccan lamb - delicious!

Expected average, instead I received an outstanding main course followed by an amazing sweet. Would certainly recommend to ANYBODY!
Better than anything I've tasted in Chorlton.

My starter was baked feta, Greek salad, and flat bread, which is difficult to get wrong, but managed here (bread toasted to concrete, miniscule salad, no onions, rocket!). I think I was just unlucky though - everyone else's starters were very good, and the main courses were excellent. Very good service, nice atmosphere, very well priced set menu. Definitely recommended.

went on saturday night, menu good selection, food was well presented, generous portions tasty and interesting. would go back again we had two course with no wine, but could end up being pricey with desert and wines so watch out

Bistro 156 is a great little restaurant. It offers a short menu of well presented, superbly cooked dishes which are excellent value for money. The set menu is exceptional value for money and the service is relaxed and friendly. Highly recommended.

Easily in my top 3 restaurants in Manchester. The food is outstanding. My friends are starting to lose patience with my constant requests to go here. I really am lost for words to describe the food here. I've been at least ten times in the last four months. Don't even think about it, just go and see for yourself.

The portions make the prices very reasonable. After finally finishing my wild mushroom starter, I never got close to finishing the main course! Well recommended

A really well thought out menu of good, simple well done food. The roast pork is excellent and I too thoroughly reccoment the chocolate desert. Really generous portions of god quality food.

The set menu early in the week is excellent value for money. However, meals on Friday/Saturday can soon become more expensive. The quality of the food and surroundings is very good no matter when you eat there. There are some interesting wines on the list, and usually a blackboard special well worth trying.

A cosy but lively setting. The food was excellent and good value, with friendly and efficient service. We particularly enjoyed the Fish Pie and the melting chocolate pudding is a must!
