We visit the restaurant for most of the themed events which are always astoundingly good value for money. The staff are attentive without being 'in your face' and are very welcoming. The more we go to the restaurant the more we feel part of a unique experience of enjoying gourmet food . The chef is outstanding. The service is always unhurried and accompanied with an explanation of the recipe if requested. Thanks for providing a good English restaurant.
I''ve been back to 54 a number of times and have never been disappointed. Popped back last Sunday lunch and had to report back! Starters of huge king prawns in shellfish bisque were beautifully balanced with seafood, cream and lemon, really special. The roast beef and trimmings were great too, especially the Yorkshires I had to sacrifice both of my to my daughter, both worth replaced alongside ample extra gravy with a smile and a chuckle. No ping and ding veg here, all fresh and hot, no sign of hard edges or rubberyness. This is really great, well executed British food that needs no 'dressing up' as other Glossop restaurants seem to think is necessary. Listen upit isn't. T
Popped in with my wife for lunch on Saturday and was really impressed with the warm welcome, friendly service and most of all, the great food. We both had a great fresh broccoli soup served with wonderful home-baked bread followed by a hot roast beef sandwich. This wasn't your run of the mill sandwich but a stack of tender and moist roast beef topped with mustard onions and served with a salad with a great little fresh tomato dressing. We were so impressed we've booked to go again in the evening.
Driving my eldest daughter back to Uni in Sheffield, we took a route through Glossop which we had never visited before. Imagine our surprise to find a seriously good Restaurant in the High Street. The decor was pleasant, the service friendly and professional and the chef produced fine, good quality interesting dishes - the Gnocchi in Mornay sauce was plate-lickingly delicious and the Baked Croquettes of Goat's Cheese were magical. And to complete the journey, a chocolate fondant pudding that John and Gregg would consider MasterChef quality.
An excellent find and we are already looking forward to our next visit. Well done David and David from Paul, Jess and Harriet.
This is a real gem of a restaurant run by the same team who previously had the Bull's Head in Tintwistle. If you liked the food there then you will love Restaurant at 54. The restaurant used to be a rather average Italian it has now been transformed into a welcoming and lively restaurant serving modern seasonal British food.
I have tried to book for Friday and Saturday nights on a number of occasions and have found them fully booked with a waiting list, this speaks for itself. Instead I have dined here at Lunch time on Saturday afternoons. The casual dining menu has been different on each occasion with good specials. Dishes such as Mussel and Sweetcorn Chowder, Salad of Crispy Pork Belly with Sausage, Lambs Liver and Onions with chips (proper chips), Homemade lamb burger, tiger prawns in garlic and herb butter were perfect. Fresh, tasty and in generous portions.
All made in an open kitchen. You can tell the food is all prepared on the premises and nothing is bought in.
The desserts are to die for so make sure you leave room - Eaton Mess, Chocolate Mousse and the infamous Lemon Tart are some of the best I have eaten in any restaurant.
