food Ok, dreadful service each time Ive been had enough of it now wont return.
I live in Jesmond & sadly this is the only Chinese restaurant but its had the same decor for years now & the service is in decline to the point of dreadful, not a worthwhile experience.

First visit & wow , Andrew our waiter was so nice , really made us welcome . It makes such a difference to get good service , he was wonderful . The salt & pepper king prawns starter was out of this world . The curry & rice dishes were amazing . We now consider ourselves regulars as we will most certainly be back & all the staff smile & are happy . Atmosphere & decor lovely too .

I have eaten in the Mandalay so many times and have enjoyed the whole experience from service to food each time.
The prices are not that high considering the quality of the food when we received our bill on our first visit we thought they had missed something off the bill it was that good.
Sandra and her family have the best Chinese restaurant in the north and you will be hard pushed to find anyone who offers amazing quality of food time and time again will be seeing you all again soon, thank you.

Mandalay was a great experience enjoying its high quality chinese food. The service was superb and I would recommend to all future customers wanting a night out or for a special occasion - Mandalay offers a wide range of high standard food from Blue plate starter to Steamed seabass. Mandalay is one of the best in providing oriental cuisine.

I totally agree with Denis MacEoin's comments. I also believe this to be the best tasting 'Chinese' restaurant in Newcastle. It is a great place to go for a special occasion as you get special food and a special service. I have been several times and plan to go back soon for the salt and pepper prawns!! Yum! On my first visit with my friends we were astonished by how many flavours we could taste in the food, it was amazing! It is more expensive than others but really worth it! The décor is also really clever - creating a calm atmosphere.

We have eaten in Mandalay several times and consider it the only Chinese restaurant in Newcastle worth dining in. Whereas its competitors have settled down to bog-standard and below catering, the owners of Mandalay know how to prepare Chinese food to a standard similar to, say, Mr Chow's or the Ken Hom restaurants in London. They also know about fusion food, and create some really original dishes, as well as new takes on more traditional items. The decor has been very well designed, down to the loos, and eschews all the tired pretend-Chinese motifs that plague all regional Chinese eateries. Like Mr Chow's or Newcastle's Dragon House when it was under Barry Yiu's personal management, Mandalay fuses Western style and Oriental food to perfection. The staff are very bright and on the ball. It costs more, but so do all good restaurants. You certainly won't regret the prices once you've tasted the food. Try the magnificent Blue Plate to start.
