Iron Duke Hotel, The – Haverfordwestthis very homely country like family run pub was of the highest quality....from the polite staff to the exquisite taste of the home cooked meals. this pub comes with the highest recommendations one can give and i will definitely be re-visiting time after time after time....10/10
Angel Inn – BridgendI would consider the amount of delicious, piping hot food served to be extremely modestly priced (I live in the city of Hull East Yorkshire and would be hard pressed to find something of comparable standards at that price, within a choice of hundreds of restaurants / food pubs to choose from! My only criticism would be that on a Saturday night when the kitchen is busy grilling to order (or any other busy night) the dining room gets a bit smoky, a lovely young waitress did open some windows for us but later sitting guests asked for them to be closed. I don't know, however, how easy it would be to improve the ventilation in such an old building
Vine Tree Inn – AbergavennyHighly recommended for quality of food, beautiful rural location and informal atmosphere. Recipient of numerous awards. We had the lunch menu - excellent confit of duck, great steak, and also good vegetarian rissotto. Lamb shank was superb with a jus reduction that was to die for. All local or home grown sourced ingredients. Great wine list, also good beers and organic cider. Cost averaged at £30 per head for 3 course meal. Slight drawback was rather lackadaisical service, but not bad enough to detract from the food. Highly recommended.
The Bell at Skenfrith – AbergavennyAlthough the good staff service proved to be the focal point of my visit, it is with regret that this will be my only visit to the Vine Tree. We waited 40 minutes for our starter to arrive and then my food wasn't as hot as I'd have liked. My main course at £10 for the vegetarian option was a concoction of god knows what (everything but the nut roast it was advertised as !) Staff were told of my dissatisfaction for quality of food, though no apology or feedback from the chef ever came back to me ~ charming ! I won't be going back in a hurry !
Vine Tree Inn – AbergavennyLa Marina - No Babies Please! We went Sunday for lunch. I took my 2-year-old but alas no high chair despite that when I booked the table for 4 I mentioned that the 4th member of our party was age 2. If they had mentioned that there was no chair I could have brought my portable one. Also no changing facility so I had to lie my baby on the floor in a toilet to change him which shocked a few of the other ladies in the WC saying that it was awful that I had to get on my knees to change him and he was on a cold hard and dirty floor. When I asked about both these issues I was told that the manager/owner isn't too fond of children and therefore doesn't want to encourage customers to bring them out for Sunday lunch so he doesn't provide anything for the parents as this may be seen as encouragement. Meal was very nice, the pudding I ordered never came and another table’s drinks were added to our bill, which they amended but I won't go back. I prefer to go somewhere on a Sunday that my whole family is welcome to go to, incidentally my 2 year old is a gem to have in a restaurant and isn't a fusspot. We have dines in some of the best restaurants in London, Newport and Cardiff with him with no trouble. Not having a high chair made it imposable for me to fully relax and enjoy my own meal despite the fact that it tasted nice it wasn’t worth the bother!
La Marina Restaurant – Penarthwow amazing! great few nights, when we come back we will be back
Ye Olde Inn – HaverfordwestThis is a great place to stay, very friendly atmosphere, the B&B is very comfortable and the added advantage of a pub below. The quality of the food is outstanding, breakfast was lovely and there is a great menu for the pub and bar. Cannot fault this place at all. Coasting Pilot is located in nice area with beach very close by for some great walks. Would recommend this as a great break to anyone
Coasting Pilot Inn – LlanelliA superb pub
Hogs Head, The – AbergavennyFirst you have to get a table .The Restaurant was full for weeks in advance. The Service was quirky (pleasant and human) not your usual pompous formality. The Location and Restaurant itself was breathtaking -inspiring table design with Sunset. The food Perfect.
Druidstone – HaverfordwestIf you are looking for a quiet dining experience forget it, every time I’ve been here it’s always been noisy and seems to be popular with children’s birthday parties. The food on the other hand is good.
Frankie and Bennys – CardiffLovely traditional style with and pleasant and efficient service and good home-cooked food - the beef and ale pie, for example, was really tasty. Good selection of beers, the guest beers, Bass and Hancock's HB, were superb and the house red was also very good. As a bonus the car parking opposite the pub is plentiful and convenient
Fox and Hounds – BridgendDined at this place a few times now, nice dining areas and the food is very good. Although its major downfall is quite often dishes on the menu are unavailable which can be disappointing.
Plas Derwen – AbergavennyThe staff at Fagin's Mint Restaurant in Church village are very friendly and efficient and the food is excellent. No soggy overcooked vegetables here! How good it is to have a decent eating place in this area. We are regular customers and wish the chef and his staff good luck with their new venture.
Fagins Bar and Restaurant – PontypriddWe found this place by chance having seen it advertised on a roundabout. We had an excellent meal that was obviously cooked to order, the wine we selected was extremely good quality for the price. There is a superb seating and smoking area outside where we could watch the children safely play. We visited again but on a Sunday-what a lunch it was brilliant-the gravy was outstanding. Highly Recommended !
Glenbrook Inn – BarryWent on a Friday night, only 2 other tables in the restaurant. service was lovely and friendly but shame the food was not to par. Everything is served on a large bed of wilted iceberg lettuce and looks very bland.
Giovanni’s On The Hayes – Cardiffvery good all round service. staff were helpful and knowledgeable. food was excellent, cooked to perfection and presented well. the Morfa Parc is decorated. with surprisingly good taste. the table arrangements are good with a feeling of privacy given by careful positioning. altogether a really nice place to eat and relax.
Morfa Parc Harvester – SwanseaThis is my regular curry Restaurant as it is consistently good. Service is great and the food outstanding!
Jaflon – PenarthAfternoon Tea: For parties of 8 of more a special discounted price of £23 per person.
