Having enjoyed many delicious meals in the past at The Tawny Owl, Darlington, I was extremely disappointed to have to leave without eating yesterday, and take our custom elsewhere, as the Vegetarian choices have been removed, leaving me with only Risotto, which I dislike. Come on, we veggies do NOT always like Lasagne and Risotto, a little imagination please . Remember you also lose the custom of the rest of the group.

The Tawny Owl is a lovely pub set just outside of Darlington. The manager Rob (i think that's his name) is efficient, charming and obviously proud of what he does. The food was fantastic and the service brilliant. We will definitely be returning!

The food was not up to upto the standard
you would expect for a christmas meal.
the meat was like eating rubber
some of the veg was tinned not fresh
the gravy was swimming on the plate.
they had run out of mints for the coffee
my freinds had salmon which they told me
was very dry and could not eat it all
we will never go there again.

What a lovely place The Tawny Owl is. The pub is beautiful inside and out, the staff are extremely helpful and happy, but the food is (sadly) dire.
I am by no stretch of the imagination a connoisseur of fine-dining. Some of the best meals I've eaten have cost under five pounds.
Last night I ordered just a main-course as I was on a budget. For £7.25 I bought the Chicken, Leek and Ham Pie with Chips an Peas.
Maybe I'm old fashioned or just too working class but at over £7 (for one course) I expect something above average. This wasn't the case.
The pie was burnt at one end, the chips were cooked from frozen and peas are peas. It felt like the food had been cooked in a microwave.
All in all I would say that The Tawny Owl is a lovely pub, but don't eat there. Unless they are paying you and/or they employ a new chef.

A nice meal in pleasant surroundings, with service provided by efficient staff....with smiling faces.
Prices are on the high side of reasonable...especially the ubiquitous trick, practised by most restaurants, of boosting the bill by charging high prices for desserts and starters.
Situated outside the town with it's own ample parking space.
