About White Swan

White Swan on North Quay in Great Yarmouth is home to the freshest fish and seafood in the area – whether you’re purchasing it from the fishmongers or enjoying it freshly prepared for you in the restaurant. The business was established by Paul Williams, a local fisherman with over 30 years experience, and he prides himself on sourcing the best quality fish and seafood, both from his own boats and other local fishermen. Paul also has his own smokehouse at Caister-on-Sea and is the only person in this area to prepare and smoke Kippers, Bloaters and Red Herring using the traditional Great Yarmouth method. The restaurant offers a wide selection of fish and seafood dishes and the specials board changes regularly.  There is also a meat alternative as well as vegetarian options plus a children’s menu is available. The restaurant is open for lunch Tuesday to Saturday and in the evenings Thursday to Saturday.

As always the food was very good. Unfortunately when we arrived at 7:30pm for our pre-booked table outside we were informed seats were unavailable due to large family and people with dogs getting preferential treatment. As I explained to the young lady who offered me a table indoors if I wanted that I would have booked a table inside. After telling me how busy and stressed she was (which was if no concern to me) we were eventually seated outside after them agreeing a round of drinks on them in the car park whilst we waited. After sitting down we were informed there would be a slight wait for food. After placing our full order and drinks we then waited 1 hour 10 minutes for our starters. As we had brought guests with us it was somewhat embarrassing for us as we had said how good and efficient the restaurant was. After eventually having a lovely meal, we were presented with a bill that included the free round of drinks and a random coke that we then had to ask to be rectified. This was done promptly with no question. After all said and done we will return as the the food is of such a good quality , but will walk in to to pre-book in the future rather than using the online booking as the special request box online is obviously ignored. As our food was so long in arriving our taxi to take us home had to be cancelled and rearranged.

We booked an evening meal here at 6.15 last Friday and as usual the food was excellent. However, we were disappointed that there was nothing on the Specials board and several of the full menu meals were unavailable. Our starters were served almost an hour after we sat down. It was only later that we overheard that the main chef had decided to go on holiday. If only this had been explained to us when we arrived. We would then have happily accepted that there might be a few issues and there would not have been the feelings of disappointment when the evening didn’t live up to the usual high standards. Having said all that, this is one of the best restaurants in the area and we hope to be back soon.
