A fantastic summer destination with a terrace and tree-lined gardens, Inside Out offers an exciting international menu from award-winning chef Mark Wilkinson (ex-Wizard, Alderley Edge). Mulberry Tree

The Mulberry Tree at Wrightington is one of the northwest’s most acclaimed pub-restaurants holding both a Michelin Bib Gourmand and two AA rosettes. It opened in 2000 with head chef and co-owner Mark Prescott returning to his Lancashire roots after a glittering culinary career with the Roux brothers that took in seven years at the Waterside Inn at Bray and nine years at London’s legendary Le Gavroche, latterly as head chef. The building dates back to 1832 and over the years has been a wheelwright’s, a brewery, a blacksmith’s and a pub. The Mulberry Tree is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week with a choice of classic a la carte in the dining room or a more informal menu served in the bar. Nigel Haworth runs the kitchens and partner Craig Bancroft tends a wine cellar that stretches to 400-plus bins. The award of a Michelin Bib Gourmand in January 2007 was the latest accolade for The Waggon At Birtle on Bury and Rochdale Old Road. Chef proprietor David Watson came from a Michelin-starred background (ex-Pool Court in Leeds) and returned to his roots to open the Waggon with wife Lorraine in 2002. Housed in a former pub, the premises were completely refurbished to create a smart 50-cover bistro with a 25-cover function room above. The food is Modern British with a slight French influence but relies heavily on fresh local produce; hence dishes like the Tempura of Chadwick's Bury black pudding with Lancashire cheese, apple and bacon and mustard vinaigrette. The main a la carte menu (7 startes, 7 mains, 7 desserts) changes every three months whilst the good-value Market Menu is updated every fortnight.
