The former Thai Lounge in Whitefield, North Manchester has been rebranded as Buddha Lounge, the same as its sister restaurant in Ramsbottom. Newly refurbished, it's a sophisticated set-up outside and in with a curving black glass frontage setting the tone for the contemporary-styled interior with its polished wooden floors, high-backed chairs and funky lighting. The new menu is now in English and is well presented with favourites from the Chinese selection such as Aromatic Duck and Salt & Pepper Ribs and the new Thai Sizzlers where you choose your meat or seafood and mix it with your favourite sauce, all backed up by our new competitive pricing structure. The wine list will suit most pockets and palates and is specially selected to match the often robust flavours of Thai cooking.

Ramsbottom’s Buddha Lounge is the latest opening from the team behind the popular Buddha Lounge in Whitefield. Like its sister restaurant, the Buddha Lounge is beautifully presented and features an open-plan kitchen with a live TV feed. Specialist chefs have been imported from Thailand and China and there are two separate menus offering a range of a la carte dishes, set menus and plenty of vegetarian choices. The purpose-built restaurant also has its own special VIP booth and offers cookery classes. Buddha Lounge is located right opposite the Ramsbottom steam railway.

Fusion Spice in Horwich that offers something unique to the area – Indian, Chinese and Thai fusion cooking. It’s spread over two floors with room for 50 diners plus a private dining room that can seat 10 and has its own TV. Fusion Spice’s Indian head chef has worked in hotels around the world for chains like Le Meridien, Holiday Inn and Taj Hotels and the menu includes dishes like Patiala Murg (minced chicken cooked with a distinct curry sauce, diced onion and capsicum) and Chandi Chicken (chunks of chicken soaked in a creamy yoghurt and cheddar marinade, bound with egg, flavoured with cardamom and gilded in the tandoor). The main menu changes twice a year and there are also banquet menus and a weekend specials board. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday and from 12 noon to 11pm on Sundays. Fusion Spice also does event catering for up to 300 people.

Golden Palace on Bond St near the Pleasure Beach is run by proprietor and chef John Tsang. He has more than 30 years of Chinese culinary experience under his belt so whatever you order, it comes with the care and attention to detail that only a chef-patron can provide. The food, which is always cooked by John, you can see and hear being prepared in the open kitchen in the Hong Kong style. You’ll find all the perennial Chinese favourites on the menu – plus a variety of ‘John’s Specials.’ Anything you can’t see on the menu just ask and John will be happy to prepare it. There is room for 50 in the restaurant and takeaway service is also available. Open 5pm til late.

Great Land Cantonese Restaurant is located in the village of Barrow opposite Clitheroe Golf Club and is a key fixture in the local dining scene. This traditional Chinese has a warm atmosphere and the décor features golds, reds and greens and classical Chinese artefacts. Second generation, family run, they have developed a loyal following with regulars coming from all over the Ribble Valley. Expect all the Cantonese classics like crispy aromatic duck and lamb, Dim Sum and plenty of seafood dishes. Their signature dishes include Surf & Turf with fillet steak, scallops and king prawns. Hei Hei, literally double happiness, is a modern and upmarket new oriental restaurant in Ashton-under-Lyne. Heading the kitchen team is one of the top chefs from Manchester’s Chinatown with over 20 years of experience and the menu offers a large selection of steamed and fried dim sum, an extensive Chinese selection and dishes from Japan, Thailand and Malaysia. Meat is all locally sourced from Hartshead Farm and there is also a good selection of seafood with lobster, oysters, scallops, soft shell crab and sea bass all featuring. Hei Hei is the first restaurant of its kind in the area, bringing city centre style and city centre Chinese dining to east Manchester. The restaurant is open seven days a week (4.30pm-11pm Monday to Saturday and noon-11pm Sundays) and also offers a takeaway and local delivery service, Hei Hei Oriental Express.

Next to Parr Baths on the outskirts of St Helens, Hong Sing is a large 200-cover Chinese restaurant that serves an all-you-can-eat buffet alongside the main a la carte and set banquet menus. It’s open seven days a week right through from noon til late in the evening and also has a Chinese bakery on site which makes cakes and Chinese desserts. Buffet prices range from £5.50 at lunchtimes through to £9 in the evening prime time. Children under nine are half-price and there is also a very popular takeaway buffet box available all day for £3.80. The wine selection extends to 20 bins, all available by the glass.

There has been a Chinese restaurant in this Bond Street location for 20-odd years but it has only been the Jade Delight since 2003. This 60-cover traditional Chinese restaurant has a great-value buffet with a choice of more than 40 dishes, including Malaysian, Thai and Indian options. The buffet also includes desserts and ice cream, but not coffee. Alternatively, you can choose from the a la carte menu. This South Shore restaurant is in one room, which also includes a bar and a Chinese wishing well. The Jade Delight is a former winner of the Blackpool Tourism award. Everything is available for takeaway at a 30% discount.

Lou-Shang Cantonese Restaurant is situated in the heart of St Annes above Booth's supermarket in the square. There has been a Chinese restaurant on this spot for more than 20 years but a recent refurb has brought this venue bang up to date. Formerly Mr Chow's, it remains under the same ownership. The spacious restaurant comfortably seats 100 and is popular for business lunches Monday to Saturday as well as in the evenings seven nights a week. Unusually for a Chinese, Lou-Shang is well known for its home-cooked British puddings. Takeaway is available at a 10% discount to the main menu prices.

Plenty of restaurants have stayed the course but few – if any – can boast a 45-year-plus pedigree. The restaurant was founded in 1961 and this award-winning Blackpool institution is still going strong. A sign of the esteem in which the Mandarin is held is that taxi drivers and hoteliers invariably recommend it to visitors to the town. It’s also a got very loyal local customer base, due in no short measure to the top quality service and food. The Mandarin @ Lytham is the second restaurant for Blackpool’s famous Mandarin. The original has been going strong since 1961 but the new Mandarin is the brainchild of the present owner who has brought a new vibrancy to a very successful Chinese restaurant. The Mandarin @ Lytham is opposite Pizza Express and the square right in the heart of the town. The entrance is at ground level with the restaurant on the first floor. The interior has been painstakingly put together using original furnishings from 1930s Shanghai sourced direct from China. Expect traditional mahogany and marble tables, chinoiserie wallpaper and carved chopsticks. Miyabi is a Japanese Sushi, Teppanyaki and Oriental restaurant, from the same owners as Sakura on the Fylde coast. A fixture of the Lancaster dining scene since 2002, Miyabi is located opposite the bus station in the heart of the city. The restaurant has 80 covers for Teppanyaki dining offering a theatrical experience as well as satisfying health-conscious eaters and it would be hard to find anything healthier than Sushi. You select your choice of meat and vegetables to be cooked at the table, in front of you, on a special heated steel plate by a specially trained chef. There are also 30 covers offering traditional Chinese food. The Szechwan spicy special is particularly popular and they offer takeaway and free delivery of orders over £15. The New Harmany Chinese restaurant has been a fixture of the Bispham dining scene since 1994. It’s located opposite the police station in the main shopping area at the end of Red Bank Road, just off the roundabout, and is open seven days a week from 5.30pm til 11pm. This 60-cover restaurant serves traditional Chinese food, particularly specialising in Cantonese dishes, with their ‘eat as much as you like’ banquet always popular. The décor has a traditional Chinese feel with ornaments and artefacts as well as the obligatory fish tank. Kids and functions are catered for and the New Harmany Chinese restaurant offers good value for money.

You might not choose to walk to Ocean Palace from Darwen town centre but this Chinese is well worth the trip as it sits at Bull Hill on the edge of the West Pennine Moors and enjoys great views. At one time a Little Chef, the Ocean Palace has been completely refurbished and has a large car park and comfortably seats 80 diners. The cuisine is drawn from all of China’s provinces but Cantonese is a speciality with an extensive seafood selection, set menus and special banquets, including vegetarian. A stunning, high-end Chinese restaurant and bar in Poolstock, Wigan, Shanghai Palace is housed in a former working mans club but the luxurious interior couldn’t be further removed from its previous incarnation. It's elegant, sumptuous and atmospheric with mood lighting, furniture imported from China, large sculptures, water features and colourful Chinese murals on the walls. The sprawling restaurant can seat 200 covers; there are two lounges, one of which is called the Jade room which can be hired for private functions and weddings. There is a resident Pianist who plays at weekends and the staff are professional and friendly. Specialising in Dim Sum there are around 36 appetisers, perfect for a long Sunday lunch. The main menu spans regional cuisine from the whole of China with, top quality renditions of all the favourites and more unusual dishes on offer. The size of the restaurant lends itself perfectly for celebrations and functions like weddings and family gatherings. The China Room in Westhoughton has been trading for four years but owner Steve Kam has been in the hospitality business for 20 and ensures diners always get a friendly welcome. The China Room is a light and airy venue that mixes traditional Chinese elements with a more contemporary feel and it’s open for dinner seven nights a week and for lunch on Fridays. Expect fresh Cantonese cooking with all dishes made fresh-to-order and sauces prepared from scratch. There is a seasonal specials board as well as the main menu and signature dishes include the Shredded chilli beef and the Gold Label aromatic duck. The China Room runs a ‘no rush’ policy so you can take your time over your meal. On the second Friday of every month there is live entertainment.

THE Chinese Buffet in Bolton is a 300-cover buffet restaurant that's open seven days a week right through from noon until 10.30pm. It's a purpose-built dining space which mixes the contemporary and the traditional with the buffet station laid out right along one wall. The Red Lantern Chinese Restaurant is in the heart of Burnley, opposite the famous Bridge pub and next to the Charter Walk car park. There has been a Chinese restaurant here on this site for 20 years – it used to be known as The Regent – but new owners have changed the name and given it a complete refurb. They have a wealth of experience in the restaurant trade – they ran Manchester’s famous Charlie Chan’s in the 1970s -- and the food here is mainly Cantonese but with Szechuan and Thai specialities as well as low-calorie dishes. The entrance is at street level with the 60-cover restaurant down at basement level. The Red Lantern is open from 5pm-11pm six days a week, closed Tuesdays.

The Zen Restaurant opened in summer 2010 on Wood Street in St Annes. The 60-cover restaurant offers extensive menus of both Chinese and Thai cuisines with an impressive contemporary interior that is relaxed and atmospheric and candlelit at night. There is also a separate VIP private dining area for up to 10 people.
