Positioned on the edge of Harwood in a semi-rural location, Italian Restaurant Baci offers an escape from the daily grind and allows you to fall into the romance of old-school Italian hospitality. Baci translates as ‘Kisses’ and the owner has refurbished what was an old pub turning it into a contemporary and stylish 150-cover restaurant and bar which lends itself perfectly to creating an exciting dining experience. The separate bar area has seating and can be used even if you're not dining in the restaurant. The wine list has plenty of good-value choice and wines by the glass and there are lots of draught and bottled beers available. The large dining room has a conservatory area which can be used for functions and parties. Live musicians perform every other Thursday playing Jazz and R&B and on the weekends they see larger tables which cater for parties of up to 40 diners. The menus cover all your Italian favourites with plenty of choice of great value Pizza, Pasta and Risotto, with classic steaks and other grilled meats and fish. The other side to Baci is an authentic Italian cuisine that is peppered throughout the menu; try the starter of King Prawns in garlic, chilli and lemon sauce and mains such as medallions of Veal with Speck, finished with a brandy, mushroom, cream sauce or one of the eight different steak dishes. The specials change weekly and offer plenty of fish, seafood and meat dishes with Mediterranean influence; examples may include starters of Mussels, Whitebait or stuffed Calamari and mains such as Squid Ink pasta with mixed seafood, finished with garlic, wine, chilli and parsley topped with crispy Pancetta or whole Sea bass with thyme and saffron. Most of the menu is available for takeaway and delivery. Open seven days 6pm-Late.

New younger sibling to the hugely popular Chilli Banana in Wilmslow, Macclesfield's Chilli Banana offers the same successful formula of home-style Thai cooking served in traditional surroundings. It's also housed in a pub -- the Merchants House, part of the Robinsons chain. Chilli Banana is open lunch and evening Tuesday to Sunday. In the summer months, the patio is a great spot to dine al fresco and takeaway is available which you can now order online. There is now a third Chilli Banana in Liverpool on Lark Lane.

Chorlton’s Due Fratelli is a homey and relaxed Italian that now has a full drinks licence. It’s open seven days a week from 4pm Monday to Saturday and from 12 noon on Sundays and also has a busy takeaway side and ample parking. Everything on the menu is freshly prepared to order and there is a varied choice, including a daily-changing specials board and a kids menu. House specialities include the Mixed Grill as well as all the Italian pizza, pasta, risotto and main course options you would expect and many of these dishes are also available as takeaway. The whole menu has recently had 40% knocked off the prices as a result of the credit crunch. Due Fratelli can cater for functions for up to 100 people from 12 noon daily and has an outside catering service. Excellent disabled facilities too.

Try the full flavoured Garlic Chilli Chicken Massalla or the fiery Lamb Nepali. Little Samsi, located opposite Christies hospital, opened its doors in Withington in 2008. It's part of the Samsi group which has become the biggest importer of fine Japanese food and drink in the North West. The first Samsi was established in 1992 in central Manchester offering a deli, restaurant and supermarket in one building and they have recently added a new Japanese Izakaya pub in the basement. The most recent Samsi also opened in 2008 in Spinningfields. Little Samsi offers great-value Japanese food to eat in or to take away, including a new range of Japanese ready meals in noodle, bento lunchbox and sushi packs. The small restaurant only has 20 covers and is very popular. It has a great atmosphere and happy staff and it's unlicensed so you can take your own booze, although they do have a range of soft drinks available. The menu offer traditional and healthy food with choices suitable for both the first timer and the connoisseur. An all-day menu is available from 11am-10pm and is supplemented by a lunch time choice, available from 11am-4pm offering sandwiches and Udon or Soba noodle dishes, all under £4. In the evening there is also an additional choice of larger noodle dish portions -- still costing under £5 -- and a choice of Deluxe Bento Boxes, providing a complete meal including two pieces of Sushi, one potato Croquette, Edamame, Miso soup, a main course and rice or noodles. The main menu has a variety of Sushi starting at £1.80 for two pieces, starters including Teriyaki, Miso and Gyoza and mains of rice, Udon or Ramen dishes and regular Bentos.

Taj Mahal in Farnworth is an authentic Indian restaurant, a family run affair that’s been trading now for 18 years. The China Room runs a ‘no rush’ policy so you can take your time over your meal. On the second Friday of every month there is live entertainment.

The Miramar in the centre of Swinton is a family-run Chinese with a difference, offering a modern take on Chinese food. It only opened in July 2009 but the same family has been running the Miramar in Levenshulme for nearly 30 years. This new restaurant seats just 30 diners in modern surroundings and is like a miniature version of a city centre Chinese. The menu offers a variety of Cantonese, Szechuan and Hong Kong-style dishes all prepared with Miramar’s home-made signature sauces. Aside from the main menu there is also a chef’s specials board that changes monthly and there’s also a good selection of dim sum. The salt and pepper spare ribs are reputed to be some of the best in Manchester but if you can’t decide from the a la carte there are various set meals. The Miramar is open for lunch Monday to Friday and dinner seven days a week.

Located in the impressive Great Northern Square between Casino 235 and the brilliant Taps Bar. Zaika opened in time for Christmas 2009. This contemporary and stylish fine dining Indian restaurant is the result of a partnership between a property developer and a restaurateur with 30 years experience. Zaika translates as 'Sense of Taste' and the restaurant interior has been extremely tastefully rendered. Set over two floors each with distinct dining and bar areas, the restaurant can accommodate 180 diners. The upstairs has the addition of a VIP private dining room where up to 20 guests can choose from a stunning fine wine list that features some of the world greatest wines. The food here is a modern fusion of the dishes from six regions of the Indian sub-continent including Sri Lanka. A western twist is put to some famous ceremonial dishes such as a whole stuffed spring lamb available to pre-order at £295. The Punjabi head chef uses his own special spice blends to create uniquely complex dishes with fresh fish being a speciality.
