First visit after many recommendations, food was amazing, service very good. The salt & pepper squid was great and home made pie worth a try. Will be back to try the steaks !

I reviewed the Royal Spice in 2007 and raved about it then. Its now 2012 and if anything the food is even better and the staff have become great friends! Just got back from a 'top indian eaterie' in North London. It was very nice, but still cant match up to the Royal Spice in North Barnsley. I pity any fan of indian food who has never experienced 'the spice'

Customer service was ok. Food was terrible. Ordered chicken pie which was like mush, a child burger which looked like it had been on the grill all day and the corn on the cob looked like it had been reheated to death. The steak was supposed to be well done was dry and had no taste. Worst pub food we'd ever had.

Went for a 59th birthday meal. There were 19 of us in total and we gave our order to them 2 week in advance. OH DEAR!! It didn't bode well when the waitress only had us down for 18..then it got worse!!! Here are the highlights wrong food coming out (chicken sizzler and not beef) 8oz sirloin being tried to look like a 16oz and waitress saying it was 16oz!! 1 member of the party STILL not got her meal now...the day after!!! Only 2 bowls of chips between 9 Then..the landlords gobby wife saying to the person who didn't get a meal after she said it was a shambles "SHUT UP MISS KNOW IT ALL" WOw now thats customer service for you!!! When the landlord came he was rude to saying " ill run my pub like i want to run it" you mean into the ground pal??? Then a table near us with 9 people in the party were complaining as their meals were wrong too (passing rump steak off as ribeye!!) then 'gobby' was yelling at them from the bar to "shut up and eat your meals" I have been here before and the food is nice (if and when you get it) but ill never ever step foot in there again. Or in his other pub ' The Shambles' in Barnsley Rude management isn't what is needed and i wont go there but will go to the Hare and Hounds from now in.....Oh. And friends of ours got the same treatment on a works christmas meal!! Seems OAP meals can be done but not if theres more than 6 people POOR POOR POOR

been to barnbrooks about 6 or 7 times since it opened and always had a very good experience! BUT went there for my birthday on the 31/01/12 and was greatly disappointed! the menu had changed (whats happened to the fabulous chicken Cajun starter?) there was only me and my husband and another family of four in so you would expect everything to be perfect but the prawn cocktail was basic (even cheap) and the brussceta had hardly any cheese and when asked for salad cream there was none to be had not even a sachet! how can a restaurant have no salad cream? then our main was sirloin steak with cajun battered king prawns which i asked for medium to well done and which was ooozing blood when it was served to me! and there was no sauces to go with the steak and no sour cream to go with the cajun prawns! this one dish was £21.98 and was very basic and not cooked right at all! we didnt have a sweet which we had been looking forward to, as we were worried about how bad that would be so we left! the bill for this disaster without sweets was £61.40! and as we left the man in charge said did you enjoy your meal? no i said and told him everything that was wrong "oh" he lamely said i will have a word with chef! and that was it no oh dear i will give you a free sweet or knock you a little off your bill! i just shook my head paid and left! thats the last of our hard earned money that barnbrooks will ever get! really bad service!
