Food Porn – Love It Or Loathe It?

News

Food porn is here to stay and here at Sugarvine we’re all for it - our Inspiration Gallery is packed with decadent dishes strutting their stuff. But we quite understand that it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, especially when it involves diners whipping out their phones over dinner. The latest flare-up has seen industry heavyweights Gordon Ramsay and Michel Roux lock horns after the 76-year-old Roux brother put up a sign at his restaurant - the three-Michelin-star Waterside Inn at Bray, in Berkshire – asking diners not to photograph the food. This prompted a Trump-style Twitter tirade from Ramsay featuring the epithets ‘pompous’ and ‘old fart.’ You get the picture…

Undaunted, we’re going to point you in the direction of some more food porn. First up, you’ve got the chance – if you’re in the north - to get involved in the 2018 Food Porn Awards and vote for your favourite-looking dishes. It’s the first year the general public has been involved and the organizers encourage you to ‘vote for the dish that makes you want to lick the plate clean.’ View the shortlisted images.

Or you could always join half a million other porn fans and follow the Instagram account of Cedric Grolet. He’s France’s most acclaimed patissier and in October was named the world’s best pastry chef. In the real world, he plies his trade at Le Meurice in Paris. In the virtual world, the Rubik’s Cube and faux fruit creations that adorn this page have made him a social media rock star. Or is that porn star?

As pensioners, a meal out is lovely occasion and of course the quality/taste of the food is the prime motivator. Having said that, a little ''food porn'', ''food magic'' or ''food theatre'' is a bonus. The proviso is that it does not mean waste or reduction of quality.
