Indian Accent is New Delhi is the only restaurant in India on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Indian Accent in New York was lauded amongst the best new restaurant openings of 2016 and boasts one of the 100 best wine lists in the U.S. And now Indian Accent has opened on Albermarle Street in Mayfair, bringing its inventive approach to Indian cuisine to the UK.
Chef Manish Mehrotra puts a contemporary spin on traditionally grounded recipes, both nostalgic home dishes and unusual foods from lesser known Indian regions and communities. He highlights rarely seen Indian foods such as Makhan Malai, a medieval dish made of aerated milk infused with saffron. Dishes such as Soy keema, quail egg and lime leaf butter pao and Kashmiri morels, walnut powder, parmesan papad appeal to the adventurous while satisfying traditional palates. And the playful presentation of the Ghee roast lamb with roomali roti pancakes is inspired by the format for Peking duck. The London location also showcases local produce and puts creative spins on British classics such as black pudding, stuffed inside kulcha flat bread.
Set across two floors, the restaurant has reimagined materials familiar in Indian architecture. A combination of brass, marble and combed pearl-lustred walls create a contemporary backdrop complete with rich crushed emerald green velvet upholstery. A striking spiral staircase leads to the intimate lower ground floor restaurant where there is also a private dining option for 12–25 people.
