If you really want to push the boat out and treat your beloved to a weekend away to remember, the UK has some fabulous destination venues offering great food and luxurious spa facilities. Here we’ve selected three of the best:

The Swiss Connection

When it comes to hotels, nobody does it better than the Swiss. So if we tell you Whatley Manor is owned by one of the richest families in Switzerland with a sister hotel on the shores of Lake Geneva, you start to get the picture. Expect tip-top service, two-Michelin-star dining, the Aquarius Spa and even a 40-seat cinema. The 23-bedroom hotel is set in 12 acres of grounds close to both Malmesbury and Tetbury on the edge of the Cotswolds.

A Family Affair

Perched above Lake Windermere, Gilpin Hotel and Lake House has been owned by the Cunliffe family since 1917 and has been a hotel since 1987. But times they are a changing under the new generation and the last few years have seen the addition of five luxury spa lodges, a separate Lake House with six stunning suites and an Asian-influenced restaurant – Gilpin Spice – to offer a more relaxed alternative to the main Michelin-starred restaurant.

Spa and Saddle

If your tastes are at all horsey then look no further than Lucknam Park. Set in 500 acres of grounds just a few minutes away from Bath, this imposing Palladian mansion boasts its own equestrian centre with 35 horses as well as a luxury spa complex and a choice between the Michelin-starred dining room and a more informal brasserie. If that’s not enough to float your boat there’s croquet, tennis, a football pitch and a cookery school too.
