Great food and attentive staff. ....but too much food on the plate so had to leave some..

celebrated the wife's birthday with a surprise Saturday night dinner here recently during semi -lockdown and was pleasantly surprise by how friendly and welcoming the staff where. previous visits the had a very old locals vibe about the place. Staff were very attentive and helpful. At every stage of the meal where able to accommodate and judge just when to bring in the next phase of meal. As a family of 5 ,3 children of varying ages we had no problem finding food to suit and the drinks were good too! Everything came piping hot and the accompany garnishes were more like side salads which is a good thing and not wasteful.

We all four thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The roast beef and duck were excellent and the fruit salad was outstanding. We are recommending to all our friends. Very good value for money Service first class. Very pleasant atmosphere and plenty of outdoor space, weather permitting.

Friendly staff and good service, huge starters (even shared between two they were still big) and really good mains. Enjoyed the curry (although IMO a Durban curry should be a bit hotter) and it would be nice to see some South African wines on the wine list too, to complement the menu options. All told, a brilliant evening, and will definitely be back!!

Had dinner with 6 friends last night to celebrate a 60th birthday. We had an excellent meal, the food was really delicious and plentiful and the staff were really friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend .

Came for birthday drinks and highly impressed by incredibly friendly staff and a lovely outdoor area... had a great time and couldn't recommend enough!

Another excellent Sunday lunch at Horse and Chains.

Disappointing way below average and very expensive. Roasts were ok (passsble at best). However options for non meat eaters awful (cauliflower cheese for £14) outrageous, asked for vegi curry if mild and only when it was served was diner told we cant do it mild so here is some yoghurt (she had asked if she could have a simple salad or vegetables instead and told no its sunday) so most of meal left uneaten. When said could not eat curry as too hot was offered free desert (not wanted) and no discount offered for cost of curry for person who effectively had no lunch

Amazing atmosphere and lovely food, but most importantly absolutely lovely staff. Everyone went above and beyond, they couldn’t have been more accommodating and friendly!
