Had a superb meal here last week. A brilliant full flavoured fish soup for me and the wife had some cured salmon declared delicious. For main courses a wonderful duck shepherd's pie and a steak with some beef cheek on the side - top cooking. Desserts were a struggle given the portion sizes but we managed a great pannacotta and some of their own ice cream. What an oasis in these parts!

The railway is a real gem of a place, modern decor in keeping with the building's character, great friendly but professional service and a high standard of food. Have been there twice for a Sunday lunch, and enjoyed it equally both times. The starters are more than generous portions, (definitely recommend the home made pate), the main meal again generous portions, with real fresh tasting food (recommend the welsh lamb which melts in your mouth). A wide choice of mixed vegetables are served with the main, again all fresh and cooked to perfection. A good choice of desserts rounded off the meal nicely. All in all, at approx £16 per head for three courses, would definitely recommend and will be going back again.

the food was very good and the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. will go again

Hollybrook Tavern – Carmarthen

If you want quantity then this is the place for you. If it's quality you're after then look elsewhere. Very average food in a dingy, ill lit room. Glass of wine from the bar was in a small bottle, inadequately chilled. We would rather go hungry than return here.

This restaurant is a real gem of a find. The food is superb, excellent value and the quality is of of the highest standards. As soon as you enter you are captured by the warm welcome of the staff and owners, where nothing is too much trouble. As well as the extensive menu (all home made - right down to the chips!) specials were also offered - the difficulty was deciding what to order, although we will be returning regularly to try all the delights! A must visit for anyone wanting a relaxed, enjoyable evening meal or lunch time snack.

This pub is advertised on the Internet as the 'Best pub in Wales'...however, I beg to differ...the food was possibly THE WORST I have ever tasted, my chicken kiev was overcooked and completely dry with no garlic sauce in it at all, my wife had the chicken chasseur and quite frankly she had tasted better from homepride, the chips we were served up were obviously McCain crinkle cut...so much for home made as was advertised..The vegetables were not cooked properly and the landlady was incredibly rude and abrupt and maybe needs to attend a course on people skills as at the moment this appears to be lacking. The most annoying factor about this pub (you cannot seriously call it a restaurant!!!) is that if you want to order beers with your food, you have to pay for them with cash only as they can't be added on the food bill (which you have to pay for before you sit down to eat I may add!!!). All in all, extremely disappointing, the only positive thing about the pub is that it looks absolutely beautiful....apart from that...this pub is to be avoided!!!!!

An utter dump. Awful food and the place is generally dirty and run down. NOT recommended.

This pub should be a real winner. Thatched roof, beautiful surroundings, loads of history.. and ... THE RUDEST STAFF EVER. My wife and I had a memorable (for all the wrong reasons) meal here. When going to the bar to order, the chap in front tried to order but hadnt taken his table number. He pointed to his wife just 5 metres away and said "That table" in the empty corner they were sat on. The lady behind the bar insisted that he get her the number (even though I would hope the staff knew the table numbers.. How do they get the food out??). Alarm bells were then ringin when I ordered the mixed grill and asked for my steak to be done medium. I was told that i would have to have my steak "as it comes, as there is a lot for the chef to keep an eye on" !!! I was so stunned, I didnt even think of doing what i should have, which was to walk out. I paid and sat down.. still stunned. The catalogue of rudeness un un helpfulness could be witnessd from our table thoughout the evening. It was the only subject of conversation betwen my wife and I. The food was OK, although we were suprised for the table to be set(incorrectly) and starters served by the eight year old grandaughter. Never again will I visit the White Hart until I hear of a change of management. AVOID at all costs

Had Sunday lunch there on 27/04/08. Excellent lunch! Three of us went & the three different meals were faultless from starters to desert. A pleasure to eat there. The restaurant is smart & in a beautiful location right on the side of the River Cothi. If there was a very minor niggle, it would be about making sure people could find the front door easier! :)

this is a restaurant not to be missed.it serves the best of local ingredients served with a passion for quality and flavour. It only opens for dinner on fridays and saturdays, which gives the owner plenty of time to hunt and fish!Llansteffan is blessed to have such a character as Bill the owner who truly cares for food as it should be prepared.

Visited for lunch on 5 Jan 2008. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Excellent menu, ranging from imaginatively prepared pub lunches to beautifully presented cordon bleu-level dishes. Alert, patient and helpful (but not intrusive) waiter/waitress service. Reasonable prices and plenty of parking. All the staff know and like what they're doing, and it shows. Highly recommended.

The Castle Inn at Llansteffan is a superb example of how a traditional pub should be, the best beer, Brains Dark, and a landlady who cooks fresh food that represents the world.

We ate at the butchers a weekend ago, this place is the real deal and portions that are like they used to be the quality of food is exceptional and quality of meat is better than most restaurants we have eaten in, nothing is too much trouble. The venue is of the beaten track a little but that just adds to the butchers charms, we will definitely we returning and we will make sure we don't eat anything all day.
