I think El Bareto is a little diamond of a place... it truly has an atmosphere of Spain, the owners are lovely and treat you like extended family. It is a very welcoming little place that very quickly becomes a regular for a quick drink, light bite or special night out.. Definitely try it

A unique place in Chapel Allerton, a bar with a bistro and when you're in the bistro, which is upstairs, you'd never think there was a bar downstairs because of acoustics are so good. It's perfect for weekend food before wandering downstairs for drinks. There's even jazz on Monday nights. There seems to be a few people who have the knives out for this place but I've no idea why. perhaps they'd be happier at the "in your face venues" or maybe they could drag their knuckles across the road to the Mustard Pot or the Hulats. Some of us appreciate a bit of class!

I agree with the preceding positive comments about the food and service, both of which are very good, but older diners like myself should note that the comments about the "great atmosphere" really mean that it is incredibly noisy and those who want to indulge in pleasant conversation with their partner should look elsewhere. Unbelievably good. My favourite restaurant in Leeds. They never disappoint me. The food is first class and is complimented by the most delightful and efficient service I have ever experienced. If you have not been you are missing out. Reasonably priced too. Highly recommended.

I was offered a meal deal from this Pizza Hut which worked out to be cheaper than buying items separately so the staff saved me money. The meal was very nice and I would definitely come back again.

I would just like to say that I was in your restaurant last night 31.08.06 and could not believe how well presented and delicious the food was, also the service and politeness of your staff is the best that I have ever experienced. i have only been in work this morning for 1 hour and already I have recommended your restaurant to about 20 people.

We love Sukhothai. They provide the tastiest Thai food around Leeds in elegant surroundings and with courteous smiling service. I have tried the other Thai in Oakwood but found it most disappointing. Guess I am a Sukhothai loyalist, but there is really no where better to experience really good Thai food in a great atmosphere. Jan and Ian

Went there for a friend? 18th Birthday. Good deals on food, the starters were really filling and the mains were excellent.

Sukhothai offers great Thai food and as I found to my pleasure you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. From the beautiful wood carvings and tastefully decorated restaurant to the model-like servers, everything is pristine at Sukhothai. The restaurant's menu is inventive and offers very flavourful food. Despite the peaceful aura created by the design, Sukhothai when busy can get a bit noisy, so be prepared, but this in my opinion enhanced the evening, creating a very pleasant and lively atmosphere with an extremely reasonable bill, at just under £36 for 2 including a bottle of very pleasant house red, but due to the generous portions there was no room for desserts. A very pleasant night indeed. Highly recommended. 10/10.

My first visit to Sukhothai, I went with some friends on Friday. From the moment we walked through the door it was most enjoyable. My colleagues were experienced Thai foodies, so I let them order. The food was deliciously cooked, with generous portions. I just loved the different array of flavours available from the dishes, unlike Indian and Chinese where all the dishes tend to taste similar. The service and food was faultless, and then there was a really nice crowd of people in. Good value too with the bill just over £72 for 4, each having 3 courses and drinks.

Very very tasty. Great Service, great food, lively atmosphere and sorry to disagree but I thought they had quite a comprehensive list. I plumped for a Mersault which complimented the flavours to a tee. It was busy although we did manage to get a table without a booking on a Thursday night. Culinary excellence.

We enjoyed our meal, service, found the tables a little too close for comfort (don? think the waitresses enjoy that aspect of their job) quite busy suppose should be at 8.30 sat eve, only 1 or 2 quibbles wine list not great (ok) and secondly seemed to need our table as our bill came without request otherwise good thank you. Quite simply the best Thai restaurant in Leeds by a long shot. The food is consistently fantastic and delicious. If you have not been to Sukhothai, you are missing out on one of the tastiest dining experiences to be found up North with the added bonus of an extremely reasonable bill. This place is nearly always busy so booking a table is advisable.

Visited on Fathers Day, and enjoyed the most amazing meal. We ordered seafood spicy soup, satay fish and chicken, with thai fish cakes. All dishes were perfectly cooked and were sizzling hot. The satay peanut sauce was beautifully balanced and the sweet chilli sauce complimented the fishcakes perfectly. Main courses included a weeping tiger, (sizzling marinated steak), Pad Thai, minced pork with chilli and basil, and steamed seabass with chilli and lemongrass. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the combination of tastes at our table blew us away. Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, amazing value.

The Daddy of all Thai restaurants. I have tried a few of the other Thai restaurants in Moortown and Oakwood and Leeds City centre, and they can not hold a light to these guys. Their standards are impeccably high and they consistently achieve a high level of excellence in food and service. If there is a downside it is that Sukhothai is pretty much always packed, but there is always a great atmosphere. Highly recommended

Excellent. Sukhothai can not be faulted on any level. The food was gorgeous, as were the waitresses, whose service was 5 star. Extremely busy. Great night out. Reasonable bill. £76 for 4 of us.

I have been a fan of this place for a long time, however I did not realise how good there food actually was. We have just returned from a 3 week tour of Thailand. Whilst we were in Thailand we really struggled to find a restaurant which provided the same quality and tastes that we are used to at Sukhothai. We ate in a lot of the better restaurants in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket, and only 1 or 2 were on a par(both in Bangkok). I think Sukhothai should open a branch in Thailand, as they really do outclass a lot of the other restaurants, aimed at tourists anyway. I would love to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. I really expected great Thai food everywhere I went, but was disappointed. Within a week of returning from our holiday we visited Sukhothai and after our first few mouthfulls we both realised we were very lucky that we did not have to travel half way around the world to get food this good.
