Ingrid

I have to say I visited the restaurant last night and was very disappointed, The restaurant doesn't take bookings during the week so we arrived early but were still made to stand and wait for a table for over an hour in a little bar area by the kitchen. the place was packed and it was like waiting in a bus queue. The owner was rude and arrogant when we complained and said he had passed us over for other parties as we hadn't informed him when we had all arrived, even though we had told two different waiters who hadn't done anything about it. When we asked to sit in the new bar area we were told it wasn't licensed and we had drinks but even if we finished them we couldn't go in there. it was only after we had complained for a second time that we were finally seated - crammed into a corner so we could barely move. the owner re-appeared to take our order - pawing at one of our party at the same time and commenting on our supposed abuse of his cheap laminated menus for folding them over so we had room to read them. Food was lukewarm but the pizzas were good if a little soggy. Unfortunately i had to ask three times and wait over half an hour for tap water and friends waited 20 minutes for a second round of drinks and nearly three quarters of an hour for two liqueur coffees which were also cold when they arrived. overall a very disappointing visit and quite simply the shoddiest service I've ever had - we won't be returning.

Aldo’s Pizzeria – Cleckheaton

I adore Aldo's!! It's as old as I am and I have been going since I was a small child. It is without a doubt my favorite restaurant. I go frequently, sometimes even twice in the same week and I never get bored. The menu is very extensive for an Italian and the food is amazing. I have never had a bad meal there and must have been hundreds of times by now. Pino has just opened a wine bar next door to Aldo's which is gorgeous. The decor, staff and atmosphere make you feel like you're in a posh wine bar in Leeds yet the prices are very reasonable. The wine bar makes Aldo's the full package for a night out, you can now meet there for drinks, have an amazing meal and follow it with a party atmosphere in the bar. I cannot emphasise enough how amazing this place is and would recommend you try it for yourself!!

I have visited the Wheatsheaf several times recently for lunch, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I would not normally take the time to review a restaurant/ pub, due to my own laziness. However, after reading the recent review in the Yorkshire Evening Post I felt compelled to do so. I can only imagine that the reviewer thought they were a Michelin Inspector, although the situation did not sound ideal, it does appear to me that it has been embellished for literary purposes. The food and service at this establishment have always been second to none and at an extremely reasonable price. All the reviews already placed on this site are testament to this. Shame on you Yorkshire Evening Post, surely a second visit (if they will have you) is in order to present a more accurate picture.

Aldo's Pizzeria in Cleckheaton is a little gem. When there you feel like you have been taken out of the UK and popped into a bit of Italy. The staff are friendly and will go out of their way to offer the best service possible. I have been going to this restaurant for years and have never had a negative experience. I have special dietary requirements due to allergies and Aldo's manage to make me feel safe and comfortable each time I go. Even the kitchen staff interact with the customers! Its lively with fun waiters/waitresses, great music - the atmosphere is so fresh, it would be hard to beat! I have never heard a bad word said about Aldo's - try it for yourself and you will keep going back! I recommend the Calzone Kiev (absolutely divine) however, there are many scrumptious choices on the menu. Pino (the owner) will greet you like an old friend! Excellent restaurant, it has put Cleckheaton on the map!

Excellent Sunday dinner, probably the best Yorkshire puddings i have had. All produce was 1st class, I had ham and my wife had Beef , the childrens meal would have been enough for an adult. Have rebooked to go again. First Class.

The Chief (Adam) produces some outstanding meals that are wellworth sampling, the host Sarah provides you with a warm and friendly welcome to the Inn were you will find pleasing decor and a friendly atmosphere. They serve lunchtime and evenings up to 9pm but ring first as it is very popular, and after meals on a Wednesday evening her partner (Damion) provides an entertaining quiz night. Not to be missed

My boyfriend and I went for lunch we hadn't booked thinking it would be quite but when we arrived it was very busy, we were told the wait would be 20 minutes but didn't mind so sat down and had a drink. After getting sat down and ordering we waited about another 20 minutes for our food which was superb, I had sausage, mash n a Yorkshire pudding. I was so pleased with my meal and the Yorkshire pudding was the best I'd tasted in a long time n it was huge. My boyfriend had fish n chips n again that was beautiful, the fish was also very big. The staff we so lovely and smiley even though they were very busy, the surroundings are very tastefully decorated also n there is a lovely beer garden out the back. Overall very pleased with our visit and therefore have booked for 11 of us next week. I would say definitely book to make sure you get a table.

This is a welcoming and inviting place with plenty of choice to either eat in or take away. The owner is friendly and will cater for all needs which isn't something you always get elsewhere. The food is to a high standard, the 'best' in Cleckheaton. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends, family and colleagues.

I use this venue on a regular basis. I find the service consistently very good, the place itself spotlessly clean, and the food always first class. I can seriously recommend a visit here to anyone either locals, or visitors to the area.

I went with my partner, my daughter and her partner for Sunday lunch and we all agreed it was the best food we had eaten for a long time, having tried lots of restaurants. The staff are very pleasant and let you take your time, we will be going back shortly. This is a little gem.

The food here is of a consistently good standard. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Matthew makes your food/drink exactly as you like it. If it is not on the menu he is willing to make it anyway. A good place to eat and drink. 5 stars

We visited the Wheatsheaf on June 29th 2010 and were very pleasantly surprised, we both had the deep fried cheese on mango Puree to start, which was delicious and light, then Kev had the belly pork and I had the Ballotine of chicken stuffed with Boursen. Both were outstanding and a credit to the chef. The waiting staff were attentive but not in your face and all in all a good solid 9/10. Keep it up !!

I recently visited the Wheatsheaf after it being re-opened with my partner and our 2 year old daughter. It was clean and tidy and the service was fantastic, there was a wide variety on the menu, that much so I didn't know what to choose!! It was served and presented well and tasted gorgeous, in fact I would say it was the best Sunday lunch I had ever eaten!
