Just my kind of place. A family run freehouse in a lovely little village out on a limb. Full of character. Good beer and food and nice rooms too. The heart of the local community. I had the trio of fishcakes that were very tasty with equally good Hawkshead Ale!

Fireside Diner

Love this place. Recently refurbished. real fires, dogs, good ale in the heart of a lovely village! My soup and a sandwich was spot on too.

fantastic food

Stumbled upon this amazing little enclave. We enjoyed posh sarnies and cake at the tea shop. A walk and swim in the river. A historical tour of the old priory. And we would have stayed in the B and B if we hadn't already found one.

Excellent Food and Service, would recommend to my friends. Very Warm Atmosphere and Friendly Staff. Value For Money

Wonderful little Cafe i stumbled across while walking hadrian's wall.small and very eccentric looking from the outside but housed a wonder of deserts and delicious treats. light meals were also served i think. the soup was wonderful and just what i needed on a wet day, also try the banoffi pie it was out of this world. walkers paradise on a wet day!

Very friendly family run pub in the middle of an area of outstanding beauty. Both the owners and locals are very welcoming and help make your stop very enjoyable

My experience of Oakwood was enjoyable, relaxing and peaceful. I will return with friends and family.

small family run country pub. the owners are very friendly and welcoming. my only complaint would be that the sign on the road states that food is served 7pm to 9pm and apparently they stop serving at 8.30. so my advice would be ring in advance and find out as in this district it is hard to find restaurants that serve after 9pm
