We arrived at 7:30pm to be told that there was no beef burgers, gammon and the pie had changed. So there was pretty much nothing left on the menu to have. So we left. Also the guy ignored use when we first arrived and carried on doing something on the computer screen, left use waiting, standing there feeling a bit uncomfortable till he finally said hi. All he had to say was Hi, sorry I’ll be with you in a minute, just need to finish something off.
The Belle Vue – CockermouthThe food was delicious. Really good portions and everyone was happy with their choices. The beef pie, Lamb Henry and Cumberland Sausage and Mash were great! There was one staff member on the night we visited and she did a great job, running the bar and serving the table. Thank you we will be back.
The Belle Vue – CockermouthWe dined on a Sunday evening after what we had been told was a busy lunchtime. Unfortunately some of the menu wasn’t available and when the food came it appeared to be lunchtime warm ups. Yorkshires were dry and burnt, pork was tough. No beef, no cranberry sauce. Food was hot though and service was fine. This maybe isn’t reflective of usual quality but unfortunately was our experience!

We regularly come to cockermouth to visit family and tried The Bell Vue for the first time and we were impressed. Lovely quiet atmosphere, staff ensured we got the food exactly as we ordered it, service was very timely. The food was great, plenty on the plate and really tasty. We will be visiting again.

The Belle Vue – CockermouthWe went to the pub to try their pie and pint night. The pie and chips were tasty but not big and really just enough for my husband. The wine and beer were also fine. The only thing I didn't enjoy were the vegetables because they tasted as if they were frozen. It was however good value but I hope fresh vegetables would be considered.
Meal fine but I wasn’t fond of the ‘proper’ chips. Not at all appealing to look at. I prefer a nice golden chip. Not a lover of the taste either.

We all had the two course Festive lunch and it was excellent, plenty of it and very well presented ( and above all, very tasty!) We certainly will return. Thank you
The Belle Vue – CockermouthThe change in the Pheasant made me emotional. The Inn Collection Group have ripped the soul out of this former genteel haven. Gone are the lounges and character. Its now just a pub restaurant, no longer an Inn. They have introduced the group redesign and furniture even though it doesn't suit this venue. Food is ok, just pub grub now with sachets of ketchup and vinegar at your table at dinner. The service was good and friendly and our room was nice and spacious. However if you liked it before you'll hate it now.
The Pheasant – CockermouthWas looking for a place for lunch in Cockermouth with decent real ales and this place came up trumps. Great selection and we had a lovely meal too in fab surroundings. This place has real character, dating back to the sixteenth century apparently, and it just oozes out of the stone walls.
The Castle Bar – CockermouthThe Pheasant is now under new ownership, part of a pub group, and it’s very much the end of an era, I’m afraid. I suppose if you’ve never been before and your expectations are basically pub food and a room for the night in a quieter part of the Lake District then it fits the bill – albeit at the pricier end of the spectrum. But the charm, the fine dining, the decent wine list, the hidden gem in the north Lakes – it’s all gone. Such a shame.

The Wheatsheaf Inn – CockermouthWonderful 2 days at The Pheasant Bassenthwaite. Our room was lovely and the original bar was amazing! We ate in both dining rooms and both meals were excellent! Would heartily recommend The Pheasant to anyone!
