Rude staff and negative responses from owners to any criticism would put me off ever going here again no matter what the food is like. Incidentally it's just average pub grub.

The Pig & Whistle Inn – TotnesWhat a disappointment this establishment is. On the occasions I've been, I have rarely come out happy and satisfied. The waiter seems to take no notice of you're needs being met and I found him to be rude. When I asked for the bill in the 'almost empty' restaurant, He asked me to go and pay at the bar... excuse me for asking? The ambiance is dark and dingy with a television blaring out in the background. I have a discount card, which when I showed it to him, He failed to deduct the 20% and argued with me that he had..? Now on to the food. Popodoms were stale as were the tray of sauces.. mango chuckney, watered down.. unpleasant indeed and left. Main meal- Meat based dish ( dhansak) extremely tough and chewy and so I left the meat.. The vegetables tasted off in fact it all tasted off to me. The veg seems to come out of a 'frozen' packet.. Rice- There was little of it and it was over-cooked. Nan bread- keema nan- minced meat tasted off.. Drinks- dirty glass accompanied by dust. By then, I really did not desire a desert. The service in the balti king is sub- standard. I don't see it full of people nor is it a good ambience.. My over all experience is one of total dissapointment and I came away, knowing that when I come to totnes again, I will be most definately not be going there again.. 'The cafe India' at the top of Town however, is most excellent and I recommend a visit.. 10 out of 10 to that establishment, most certainly. I forgot to mention that i had the runs after eating at the balti.. This balti house needs an inspection asap.
Balti King – TotnesHaving found this new cafe by accident, I shall certainly go back anytime I am in Totnes. Light, airy and pleasant surroundings, serving great coffee and excellent value food that would not be out of place in a far more upper class venue. We also had a parent in a wheelchair, so being spacious and on ground level, makes access very easy.
Olsen Cafe – TotnesWe wanted to say thank you for a wonderful evening at the Bistro last night. We entertained a group of seven people who all thoroughly enjoyed the food, wine and service none of which could be faulted.
Waterside Bistro – TotnesI had never tried the breakfast at the Waterside Bistro, I'm not sure why, since the quality, portion size and presentation were all top notch. Great value, try it!! Mark
Waterside Bistro – TotnesIf you are ever in the vicinity of Totnes then this is the place to go and eat whether it's for breakfast, lunch or dinner! All the food is freshly prepared and locally sourced so always of top quality. Apart from the scrumptious food there is a very fine wine list with wines of extremely good value. I would recommend The Waterside Bistro to anyone who values great food at good prices.
Waterside Bistro – TotnesProbably the most flavoursome food we've had for a long time. We ate here with friends and will be back. Excellent choice of draught beers and good wine range. Efficient friendly service too.
La Fourchette Brasserie – TotnesWent here for a beer today. The beer was great and the menu looks good although we didn't eat anything
Maltsters Arms The – TotnesHave been doing a price comparison of where it is cheapest to eat good food and fish and chips here are very reasonable
Church House Inn The – Totnespoor, complete lack of care in preparation of food - poor quality bacon and cheese - over salted french fries to the extreme making them impossible to eat -flat lager shandy on a hot day - served in a dirty glass- wont be going back in a hurry -i know this wont get printed but they should be made aware!
Waterside Bistro – TotnesWent to the Sea Trout with a party of 8 friends on a Saturday evening in February and have to say it was fabulous! The staff were attentive and friendly, the food was amazing and i can particularly recommend the Scallops and Thai Seafood Curry. To finish off we all had some scrummy desserts and the landlord gave us all complimentary coffees. Great night all round, highly recommend it.
Sea Trout Inn, The – TotnesNice food, beautifully cooked and presented, although portions slightly on the small side. If you have a big appetite avoid the 'light bite' option. Child friendly with kids menu and very tolerant staff. (Everyone kept smiling during my toddlers tantrum). appeared to be popular with a variety of diners - families, couples and those just wanting to sit and peruse the papers on their own.
Bistro 67 – TotnesI really love The Brioche for an after school treat for the kids or a relaxed breakfast. The ambience is cool and the food cheap and tasty. The staff are always pleasant and on the whole I think it's a pretty good deal.
Brioche Restaurant, The – TotnesThere are many good restaurants in the South Hams but our favourite is Waterside Bistro in Totnes and we eat there regularly. The meals are mouth-watering and good value;with the added pleasure,at the end of a delicious meal, of good coffee and homemade chocolates (they are wicked!).The above also applies to Matt and Delphines`other restaurant at the top of the town,La Fourchette(very French), where the staff are just as friendly and helpful.
Waterside Bistro – TotnesThis Christmas I organised a more relaxed staff Christmas "party" and had no hesitation in booking the Waterside for 20 of us. As usual, I knew I could depend upon Matt and his brigade in the kitchen and Delphine with her great team to provide us with a superb meal and excellent friendly service, even though our party of 20 was only one of a number of large bookings for that evening. Our M.D. and his wife were so delighted with the relaxed and enjoyable evening that I have re-booked the Waterside for our Summer Supper - again for all the staff and their partners. Cannot recommend this delightful venue highly enough, especially if you want a hassle-free party in a pleasant location with delicious food, excellent reasonably-priced wines, and friendly efficient staff.
Waterside Bistro – TotnesImaginative menu, attractively presented in a welcoming atmosphere. Could happily eat here every week so will be back. Sheila
Waterside Bistro – TotnesThank you very much for a lovely meal! The whole family really enjoyed it! We'll definitely see you soon!
Waterside Bistro – TotnesWoah! What a meal we had! That was the best confit duck I had in years! The French chef was brilliant! And the service very friendly! We loved it! See you soon!
