My favourite Italian in Edinburgh but a great shame that the Polish chefs cannot manage Zabaglioni!

The kind of Italian that you find away from the tourist trail in Italy. Unlike its big name rivals in town, La Piazza smacks of authenticity and gives you a traditionally italian dining experience. Superb quality food, unobtrusive but efficient service and value for money makes this one of the best restaurants in the city. A must for those looking for a real Italian.

Last weekend me and a good friend of mine dressed in our best attire which included the finest silk scarfs hand crafted by poor gyspys given as a gift from the Prince Jumbaliya of Indonesia, hand picked jewelled slippers, and, to round our outfits off, a beautiful orange bindi placed on our unique monobrow. We entered the restaurant with grace and elegance, hoping to draw lots of attention, we were shocked by the waitresses lack of compliments but decided to let it fall. As we stepped onto the tables to proceed our cultural/religious pre-meal jig, we were rudely interrupted, and appalled to be asked to refrain from doing so. Being a strong believer of pre-meal bop, we continued for a few minutes, then, when asked politely to leave, which shocked us to the brim of our fine silk covered bodies. We think that your staff of The Kitchin are extremely rude and unprofessional and very prejudice and discriminative.

My Wife and I went to "the Kitchin" on saturday evening, we hadn't booked, but there had been a table that hadn't turned up, so they managed to get us in. Nice welcome, pleasant if a little monotone decor and good initial impression. The canapes were a nice touch as was the pea and mint soup. I had ordered Scallops with chorizo (which was great) and because the chorizo had arrived after the dish, they sent us portions of foie gras, with no charge! The main courses of Lamb and Lobster were excellent. We went on to order a dessert and glass of dessert wine, at this point my daughter and her friend arrived at the reception, my daughter asked if she could check if her parents were there, they allowed my daughter in and after she had seen us returned with her friend , as they approached the table a waiter pulled up two chairs, and then retracted them, apparently after a gesture from the head waiter. The girls left to wait outside, and my wife and I, being a little embarrassed followed, paid the bill and left. A slightly embarrasing end to a lovely meal.

A taste of the high life at a price for everyone! We were so pleasantly surprised at the whole experience when we went for lunch here. After seeing Tom on Great British Menu, i was intrigued... and was not disappointed at all. The staff, decor, menu and not forgetting the food was superb. It was wonderful watching the staff busy away in the kitchen and seeing that Tom was there made you feel that you were just as important as the next person and that everyone was getting the best he and his team could produce. Have mentioned it to all my family... we will definitely go again!

My wife and i had a wonderful time there, its a great location and the food is superb especially the desserts. Its almost like a home away from home and Geoff and Kate are so friendly and welcoming.

Dont go there! Dreadful place. On arrival there were no locals despite the palce being busy, it was all tourists. The meal took two and ahalf hours! Not because we enjoyed it but becasue the service was so slow. The food was appalling. The literature states that Norman makes all the special sauces to his own recipe. I told the manager that I hoped Macdonalds did not sue him for perjury. A Complete waste of an afternoon

Having worked in Edinburgh for the last 15 months it's hard to imagine how any restaurant in the city can survive when it produces such appalling food and with service to match. Periodically I revisit in the hope that things may have changed, however as evidenced by tonights meal my dish must have previously coughed up fur balls and purred - it was like a whiskas jalfrezi.... horrendous and £28 to boot. hungry ? avoid this place at all costs...go hungry...eat out a wheelie bin, it won't be worse!

My party of 14 arrived at this restaurant and on first impressions were taken by the interior of the building which looked great. Unfortunately the rest of the night was more like a nightmare. Food as just awful and I would go so far as to say disgraceful. The food was not cheap but we would have happily paid the higher rates given the location had the food been edible. Lasagne was completely burned to a crisp- charcoal on top and it was the manager of the restaurant who actually served it to one of my party!!! When a substitute was provided it was bland and presented with tin foil round the edge of it...more like a bad ready made meal for one! This Italian couldnt even get the pizza right. Base was extremely dry and actually split in half it was so over cooked. There was no sauce on the goats cheese pizza only crumbled cheese and lots of rocket- just terrible. When only 3 out of our 14 could stomach eating their dinner I complained to the waiter and asked to speak to the manager. The very nice waiter had to ask the manager 3 times to please come and deal with us, as she kept ignoring us and walking past the table. After a 15 minute wait she came over and I explained our disappointment. She shrugged, made no excuse and went to see the owner. When she returned she explained that was the way food was served here (I did question the fact that she served the lasagne completely burned- was this normal?) but she agreed to discount our meal in the end. I left the restaurant completely starving and very disappointed

Caprice is a small Italian pizzeria which sells the most gorgeous freshly wood fired oven-baked pizza I’ve had in a while, its prepared right fresh in front of you. Does takeaway and sitting in the small, dimly lit restaurant is a good experience. Very busy so advise to reserve ahead of time. portions are huge and very tasty!!! Good value for money and an old favourite with the locals. ;-)))

Things have obviously changed sine the last 2 reviews my visit was a massive dissapointment. Too many complaints to even list suffice to say they couldn't even cook the humble chip properly. Perhaps Tuesday is the chefs night off

The best pizza experience in town - we love it for the gluten free pizza. Cramped or cosy? - depends on where you are coming from. Often busy and noisy but always fast and friendly service.

If you want amazing sushi at a reasonable price head to Bonsai! I am truly an addict. The salted squid in tempura batter is sooo good! And warm sake too! : )
