Outstanding food & service. Thoroughly enjoyable time. Great value for money

Beautiful food, great service, lovely cosy atmosphere and possibly the best steak pie I have ever had!!

Went for Sunday lunch the menu was perfect for our party as all have different tastes we all enjoyed what we had huge portions so no room for pudding but sneaked a peak at what was passing,looked yummy Cosy and warm atmosphere Will definitely be returning

We felt very welcome at the pub. The food was excellent, with huge portions that we were sadly unable to finish. I had the pork belly with lovely gravy, potatoes and loads of black pudding. My husband had the steak and ale pie with came with a large portion of chips and a great selection of fresh veg.

Very impressed. A very warm and welcoming arrival. Made to feel at ease immediately. The waitress was superb. Steak pie was the best ive had. Homemade and packed with top quality, tender steak and beautiful gravy. A faultless meal and I will be back.

We just happened to go there on Halloween and the atmosphere was great, along with the welcome and the food. If we did not live 5 hours away we would go back quite often!

4 of us (family) visited yesterday for Sunday Lunch (19/10/25). Haven't been for quite a while but was still pleased at the quality and choice of the carvery. Well done Empress - "I'll be Back".

After visiting the pub for the first time and after reading the comments from other visitors to the pub, my wife and I travelled down from Teesside and was extremely pleased by the welcome we were given. The food and atmosphere was more than we expected and we will be returning on a regular basis.

Went for Sunday lunch 12/10 , food served hot but belly pork abit tough , ordered pudding custard had curdled , landlady says yes it’s ok we have used to up now , why the hell did she serve it to customers if she knew . Went to pay bill first one was not ours , paid 2 nd bill but found out they had not knocked puddings off , heated discussion between landlady with her bar staff , he was thumping the wall as she called him a name he did not like ,eventually paid bill but not right but could not b bothered with Agro , sorry but will not go there again and from who I have spoken to a few people have had the same response . Lovely country pub in gorgeous village. Nice pint of Knowle Spring and lovely food. The landlady and staff were friendly and welcoming. Will definitely visit again.

Had some very good quality meals when having lunch at the Empress recently. Very generous portions, excellent food, and not at all expensive. The ales were good as well. Highly recommended!

Excellent food, piping hot, tasty and good portion size too. Lovely atmosphere in the pub / restaurant with a warm fire going. Would definitely return if we were in the area again.

Had two meals at the Royal Oak as we were staying in the village. Lovely pub with a great menu offering favourites plus a good range of new dishes. Atmosphere lovely and we wish we had something similar nearer to home! Definitely recommend.

Hadn't been for a while and glad we went on Sunday - The carvery was fantastic!

The Royal Oak ticks all the boxes. The atmosphere is fab ( a real feel old fashioned comfy British pub). The music is soft and tasteful. The service very good. The steak and ale pie is the best anywhere and the homemade deserts Cathy makes are to die for! This is our favourite place to come for a nice meal and a drink! Wish there were more pubs like the Royal Oak!

food was excellent really enjoyed it and staff are very freindly and polite too
