We were invited to join friends at this restaurant and so looked at it on the net. The reviews I saw made me a bit sceptic as to what to expect. The truth is I was very pleasantly surprised. None of the negative remarks made in the reviews were proven to be the case. We were warmly greeted and the restaurant manager was a cheerful, joking and courteous host who made us feel very welcome and appreciated. It was a very busy night and our starters took a little longer than would be expected but the manager came to us and profusely apologised and the popularity of this place was evident in that it is so well attended, I would think by regulars who have come back because of their previous experiences. The waitresses were also very attentive and polite I can only think that due to its recent launch it would, very understandably be a threat to any existing restaurants in the area and sometimes it is these restaurants who post negative reviews. I can’t be sure this is the case but it was certainly not the experience we had. By the way the food is excellent and presented beautifully. I would recommend it, try it out yourself and you will not be disappointed. I have no connection with the restaurant or its staff; I just wanted to be fair to them by adding my comments.

I have been to this restaurant several times with my husband and it's been very pleasant. Last week we went with our children 5 and 7 and were met by who appears to be the manager asking us if we had booked when the place was clearly empty! In the end a lovely waitress showed us to a table and it was fine! Today I recommended the place to a friend travelling from Birmingham , she picked me snd the kids up and once again we went to this restaurant. As we walked through the doors, the same man came over told us instantly there was no room even though the place was virtually empty! I asked him what about all the empty seats to which he said they were reserved( this was 1645) so I'm sure this was not true! I know this place advertises the fact children eat free before 7 so whether or not he didn't want kids there I don't know but it was clear he didn't want us to stay! He was very rude and I will never return! This man turned away about £60 worth of business for what I don't know! He was extremely rude and made it clear from the start we were not welcome! Whoever owns this place needs to know this man is giving this place a bad name!!!! As this is our local we had every intention of eating there often but no never again!!!!!!!

Visited for a meal today. Not impressed with the waiters who were not very friendly or welcoming. It seemed as if they could'nt be bothered. I watched as they dealt with other customers and they could not be bothered showing them to their table or smiling at them. Food was very good, just need to train the staff to smile and be attentive.

Staff didn't look like they wanted to be there it was Mothers day. It was busy but waited for over an hour for food then when it came 1 of our party didn't get his food and they said they where sorry but they said they would rectify it. But between me and you they forgot to order it, portions where a bit measely and from a first experience won't be going again.

:sigh My husband and I attended the Rivington pub and grill for the first time this Saturday 9 feb valentines treat to each other! The meal was excellent most of the way through! I unfortunately discovered a 'hair' embedded in my dessert. When the waitress came to clear our plates and asked if all had been ok we brought to her attention the hair on my plate, her reaction was to say nothing and storm off!! 20 minutes later there was still no sign off any other staff/manager to attend to our problem, so my husband asked another member off staff who was very apologetic and offered to get the manager over to sort our problem! Moments later another gentleman appeared named 'Patrick' . Patricks attitude was clearly no better than that off the lady's before! He did NOT apologise for this unfortunate situation he told my husband and I that infant it was not a hair that I found IN my When the waitress came to clear our plates and asked if all had been ok we brought to her attention the hair on my plate, her reaction was to say nothing and storm off!! it was cotton from clothing!!!! ( what a laughable excuse, I have been a hairdresser for 14 years and have worked with all types of human and synthetic hair.... I know a hair when I see one!!) To which my husband replied , if this was the case why was there cotton in my wife's meal?? Is that acceptable to yourselves? Patrick had no answer and still no apology as he walked away offering no solution to our dismay! This was a very dissapionting end to what could have been a lovely evening!! I myself am and have been a local business owner in Horwich for the last ten years, this for them should have been a fantastic opportunity to have free positive publicity first hand to all who pass through my buisiness and ask about the local cuisine! Unfortunately for them all I can do now is be truthful and tell them off my experience I had this evening in which me and my husband where made to feel be-littled and less than valued!! What a hugely dissapionting end for us and for the rivington pub and grill!!

My friends and I visited the Rivington Pub and Grill on Saturday 12th January 2013. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and in fact couldn't do enough to help us even though the venue was extremely busy and we were late! The menu is extensive and varied and reasonably priced. Our food arrived quickly and was cooked or prepared to an excellent standard. We had a perfect evening in lovely surroundings and we will definitely visit again soon. I would highly recommend the Rivington Pub and Grll!

I recently took my family for a meal at The Rivington Pub & Grill, Blackrod and I must say that the whole family enjoyed it. The food was very good quality, the staff are pleasant and attentive. The overall experience was brilliant. We can recommend the Saddleback Chops. We all wish John every success. I get to see lots of restaurants and gastro pubs but this one is a real gem. We will be returning!

My husband and I had a meal for the first time on the 5th September, was so impressed with the service and food that we went back this Saturday (29th September) and took 4 friends with us, What a fab. evening we had, the food is just great, the staff could not do enough for us. Unanimous decision is that we return very soon. Thanks you have got it so right.

Absolutely appalling, never again it was a disaster from start to finish. Poor quality of food! bring back the "Carvery" where you pick your own meat whilst the chef carves it in front of you!! When our food arrived we should have just got up and left. The waiter could not understand a word I was talking about, he was also quite rude!!

We visited on Fri 24th August for tea, on the way i remarked that it was a long drive (i don't like driving and we came from Hoghton) and that it had better be worth it-its the kind of distance that you would only travel if the food/atmosphere/service were good enough-we are going back. As we pulled up on the car park, which looked busy i was asked if i'd booked, i said not, i mean come on what food place is busy these days?-wrong when we walked in it was buzzing, just like when you used to go out all those years ago-before the Recession. We (2 adults, 1 teen and a 10year old) told the waitress we hadn't booked but would like to eat, she seated us, completely unruffled in the lounge area and went off to check how long before we could be accommodated, within minutes she was back and showing us to our table. What a mix of people in the busy, but not cramped dining area-many families with youngish children-no doubt taking advantage of the "kids eat free before 7pm deal"-and why not?, there were quite a few couples in, a group of lads in their twenties and what looked like a table of WRVI ladies. Oh my word, what a stunning menu, with a separate Specials menu too, we were so stuck-the diner on the next table said he would highly recommend the scallops, and that's just the short of place it is-friendly and relaxed. We ordered our food, scallops (which were delicious), pate and tomato bread, followed by steaks and pizzas and every single mouth full was just perfect-the waitresses were very attentive, making sure we had the correct cutlery for each course and enough to drink throughout, it was a meal out like we've not had in a long time, and just as final bonus when the bill came it was more than reasonable for what we ate and the quality of the food and service. We will without a shadow of a doubt be back.

Very disappointing evening. We took a client from Poland and it was hugely embarrassing - the waitress clearly had no idea what she was doing. Every meal arrived with the wrong accompaniments. The restaurant couldn't offer coffee as the coffee machine hadn't arrived and they only had "decaf" instant. They also had no cream. Doubtful that we will visit again.

Have just had lunch at the Rivington Pub and Grill formerly The Ridgeway Arms. What an improvement!! The decor has been tastefully done and to match the menu is excellent, with a number of choices. We both had fish in beer batter and it was delicious, as were the chips. The Staff were pleasant and efficient and we have already said we will return.

We visited the restaurant for the first time last night and cannot praise it highly enough, the food was second to none as were the staff, the decor is lovely, we have no complaints whatsoever except that we did not have enough room to have one of their sweets! We have booked to go for Sunday lunch tomorrow and would highly recommend you try the restaurant soon.

The two bad reviews on here I am sure must have eaten somewhere else.We have eaten at The Rivington 5 times now and has been excellent every time.As for the one saying the fish and chips was standard i would certainly disagree it was fresh fish with crisp thin batter and home made chips to die for.We have had plenty of the dishes now on our visits and have enjoyed every one,I would recommend people have a visit and decide for yourselves, but we will defo be going again.

Wont be going again! Although the staff are friendly they are disorganised. Went last on girlie night for a friends birthday. We all shared garlic bread, yummy! We asked to see the wine list. There were two sav blancs on the list so I asked the waiter's advice. He said one was from france and the other from chile. It stated clearly both from chile, so no help there! I ordered fish pie, nice and hot but more like mashed potato pie as fish very sparse. I made a discrete complaint to the waiter who did nothing only to say not had a complaint before. One of my friends ordered a coke at an expensive £2.50 for a small glass. As nothing was done about my complaint i will not be returning. In my opinion it needs to get back to good pub grub at reasonable prices. Especially the soft drinks

We have visited The Rivington this evening for my Father's 70th birthday meal. The staff were fantastic, so polite and nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding, hot, fresh and of such good quality. I'm not sure what the above review was used to but it certainly wasn't standard fare. It was stunning and for a place that has only been open for 4 weeks is doing remarkably well. We have booked again for 3 weeks time for a Friday evening so fingers crossed.
