Crisp

Recently visited in a party of 9, service and food were terrible. We were only given the choice of a set menu (expensive at £20) and even then had to repeatedly ask staff to bring the food we ordered to the table. We were initially given 3 portions of rice and 4 main meals between the 9 of us depite ordering a set menu for 9! The food itself was badly cooked too, the meat had obviously not been cooked with the sauces and had little flavour. This restaurant was good when it re-opened but is going downhill fast, I will not be going back again...

Reader recommendations tempted us to visit the Beaumont Arms for the first time on Friday 2nd May 2008. Reserving a table by phone the day before was easy. The restaurant staff were very attentive and the dining area was clean and comfortable, with lots of space between tables. Our food arrived quickly and was piping hot, with plenty of chicken in the fricassee and and lots of chunky chips with the gammon. Our light and fluffy treacle sponges were complemented by two steaming coffees and a generous jug of cream. Our trip was well worthwhile. Thank you to the earlier reviewers.

Two dips missing on the appetisers but washed out on the mains - they were so watery and bland I had to get the Missus to reduce them in frying pans. A very strange looking and tasting yellow sticky substance on the grilled prawns - first time I went it was provincial but OK. This time couldn't stomach it. Daylight robbery in view of the fact they advertise prices on their website but charge more. Why is it I always have to drive to Leeds or Manchester to get a real food fix. Come on you Guys wake up and shake up or get out. You ruined my night.

What a find - after looking on the net for a "Good Pub" for lunch prior to a formal dinner in the area fell on the Rose and Crown - directions very good BUT food and beer and service and approach to customers was out of this world - only wish i didn't live 180 miles away as i would take up residence If you get chance go and sample the menu the game pie was excellent we are also considering going up for the St Georges day banquet.. can you give 11 of of 10? many thanks to all staff Jon

Solo’s is probably one of the best Indian restaurants in Huddersfield. Having its own unique and refreshing team you can come and enjoy good quality food in style. Excellent menu which offers a good selection topped with professional and friendly staff offering the very best of service. Allowing you to bring your own alcohol means no drinks bill making it excellent value for money. Top marks all round, definitely one to try.

We eat here on a regular basis, and although the place is very basic and old fashioned (which adds to the experience), the food is excellent, especially the Crispy Fried Duck. Well worth a visit!

We used regularly eat here but hadn't been to The Beaumont Arms in over a year as we found that the quality of food, service and atmosphere on our past visits had really slipped, which was a real shame as it used to be so good. Then some good friends recommended it again and told us that it has a new manager and that it was better than ever! Well, we weren't disappointed! The change was apparent on walking through the door. We went early Friday evening and there was a real buzz upon entering the bar, full of people chatting and joking. We were warmly welcomed by a very chirpy chappy, who we later found out was the new landlord Pete. We had a drink at the bar before our order was taken and my husband commented that quality of the beer was excellent and back to its former best. There was a good variety of dishes on the menu and several special fish dishes. A lovely waitress showed us to our table which was nicely set and candlelit. Our meal was lovely. The starters were delicious, the mains delicious and the chocolate brownie to die for. We'd certainly recommend the steak and the monk fish - all fresh and homemade, but we were also very tempted by so many dishes that we saw going to other tables. The staff were very polite and attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We're definitely going again and have booked for Valentines Day. If you want excellent restaurant quality food served in a relaxed, warm atmosphere, with a friendly and efficient service, book a table straight away - It's great to see this place better than ever! Well done to the new management!

grapollo - WHAT A PLACE! classy, affordable, and food cooked with real passion. Great venue - brill decor and would easy cope with large parties if required. Best fillet steaks ever. huge choice on menu for everyone, be it vegetarians, meat lovers, or even the fussy bunch. Clean kitchen that is open and can be seen from restaurant. Finally - no boil in the bag sauces or ready prepared veg! very friendly bunch and holds a lovely atmosphere. My boyfriend is a chef himself so is very hard to please indeed! One of our faaaav places ever to eat now and we have become sunday tea regulars. Dont know what the dessert is like as we have never had space for one, but they all sound very tempting and look beautifully presented when we have seen other tables eating them

I've lived all over the UK and had many many curries. I would put the food at the Shama in my top 3 curry places i've eaten in. The Roti's are beautiful, fluffy and tasty! It looks a little old fashioned inside but thats just how a proper "Indian" restaurant in England should be! Nice and cold Cobra lager as well!

I have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions and never been disappointed, from the warm welcome to the stylish, modern interior and the fantastic food it is always a pleasure to dine there. Our last visit was on New Year's eve 2007, we booked a table for two at 7.30pm and the restaurant was fairly busy, we were seated a room off the main restaurant which is lovely, beaded curtains and round rug have converted an odd shaped room into an eye-pleasing circular dining area which is tastefully decorated in a modern thai style. The waiting staff are all oriental and extremely polite and helpful and the owner is ever present and circulates among guests advising on dishes where necessary. The wine menu is extensive and we ordered a rose (I forget the name -sorry) and they are reasonably priced too. While we were waiting for our food, they brought us spiced thai crackers in a basket, they are lovely and they will re-fill it free of charge if you ask! For our starter w ordered Tom Ka Guy which is a coconut flavour soup with Chicken - delicious. For main course we had Geng Massaman which is slow cooked beef with potatoes, Pad poh taek - mixed seafood with basil in a spicy red curry sauce, Egg Fried rice and Pad Thai - a traditional noodle dish dressed with crushed peanuts, the dishes are all coded with one to three chilli symbols depending on the heat. For pudding we opted for Thai Custard with caramalised shallots - a strange combination but very tasty - more like a cake consistency than custard. The bill came to a respectable £65 I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Thai food.

After driving past this bistro many times we decided to try it as the exterior is very impressive. We have never been so disappointed! The limited menu seemed to boast high quality dishes at matching prices. This was not the case. Most of the food was frozen, chunky chips etc. We ordered a mixed starter with vegetable tempura, It consisted of frozen wedges, 3 samosas, 2 spring rolls and a bit of salad with dips for £9.50!!! NO TEMPURA, apparently they had run out, of what, I don't know? Vegetables and a bit of batter?? Oh Sorry it can't have been fresh, they must have been all out of frozen tempura at the cash and carry! My son's grilled chicken was so dry and overcooked that he was still chewing it when we got home. The rice we were brought was, frankly, disgusting (half raw and half mush). All in all this eating experience would probably have been inevitable in a food pub chain but certainly not representative of the image and pricing of this particular restaurant.

I am fortunate enough to travel extensively around the world, but coming home is always a pleasure and gilded by a meal at the Moorland Lodge. The food is a treat, always fresh, with those English ingredients that ignorantly get derided in certain quarters. The ambiance and homely feeling of the restaurant are such, that it is almost as pleasant experience as the food itself, expertly managed,as are the attentive young staff,by the owner herself,Mary. Get to the top of the Peninnes and indulge yourself in the very best of English food. Dave Collick (Dec.2007)

Very disappointing food with tired fish obviously kept waiting at inflated prices and denoted "specials". We thought the wine pricey for what it was and generally the taste left in the mouth was one of being ripped off.
