An old police station, great menu, smart wine list, this is very refined cuisine, great place for ilfracombe, and we were told the menu changes daily, had great ravioli to start, and a pressed pork belly for main, and a side of truffled cauliflower gratin which is better than a bowl of the lifeless `veg` u get in most places.

Three of us spent a weekend up in North Devon and definitely agree that we couldn't have asked for a better 'local' to our campsite! The real ales selection were great, the food was lovely and the people even better...definitely worth a visit..and we'll be back again for sure!
Hele Billys – IlfracombeVery friendly staff and pleasant ambience. It's only a short menu (surely a good sign) and the cooking was excellent, BUT this isn't a place to go if you are ravenous. All portions were small and there was no choice of vegetable - it was cauliflower cheese or nothing (unfortunate if you don't happen to like cheese).
La Gendarmerie – IlfracombeDisgusting!!!! We went on Sunday for the carvery. It was £8.95 - what a rip off, the gravy was watery - no taste at all, just brown water, the potatoes were all hard in the middle and had an odd texture. They gave you 2 measly pieces of meat and when half of my slice fell of his fork he wasn't gonna put it back on my plate, i had to ask for it! All frozen rubbish! My hubby had a curry and no exaggeration from ordering to coming to the able it was about 5 minutes - blatantly just put in the microwave. And then he had to go and ask for more poppadoms cs the 2 he had were stale. The whole menu was ridiculously overpriced (jacket potato £8,95, chicken breast and jacket £11.95 etc etc) you wouldnt mind paying these prices if it was fresh home cooked food but it was frozen rubbish! I can honestly say its the worst roast i have ever had!

Puts many other venues in the coastal North Devon area to shame when it comes to having a comprehensive menu that is not reliant on frozen ready meals from Philip Dennis - as most in the area sadly are - and when it comes to service....
Hele Billys – IlfracombeI thought this restaurant was dire! The food was very poor, toilets smelled of smoke, bottles of drink stacked up in a corner on view to the public and, on the whole, the welcome was unfriendly. One of the worst places I have ever eaten in.
Dolphin Restaurant and Takeaway – IlfracombeThis is a gem of a restaurant hidden halfway down Fore street and in many ways I am pleased that it is hidden away. I would hate to think I had to miss out on a table as my family all look forward to a night out at the friendly family owned Terrace Tapas Bar on our visits to Ilfracombe. Tapas heaven,authentic dishes served with panache and cooked with care, the regular dishes complimented by alternating specials, the oak smoked chicken in paprika is excellent as are the pinchos with 21 day aged rump, melt in the mouth, foaming chilled draught san miguel , some excellent Spanish wines and the service is exceptional. Well done Mark and Kelly and your great team, you have the special recipe for success, long may you prosper.

The food was excellent and all in all I felt I was in my local pub, home from home (which is Oxfordshire). Barbabra and staff were always happy to help I would recommend this pub to anyone! Loved it!

La Gendarmerie – IlfracombeJust got back from a disappointing evening at the Terrace Tapas bar. We went for the £15.95 per head menu with started off with some nachos that were burnt around the egdes - on the up side I suppose this means they were done under the grill and not the microwave! So for your £15.95 you get 1/3 of a sausage, a jalapeno pepper deep fried, a mozzarella stick deep fried (obviously bought in frozen), one prawn frozen and over cooked on a BBQ, one two inch beef skewer and half a cherry tomato with a leaf garnish, and a chicken wing accompanied by frozen cubes of deep fried potato decorated with mayo and ketchup. To finish gross watery toblerone fondue gets the thumbs down. Needless to say we were all starving and enquired about some further dishes in am attempt to fill our empty tummies - but when we were told the size they would be, we decided to pass and planned our trip to the chip shop for dinner. This is a very poor attempt at a tapas bar, with a menu full of bought in frozen nasties and dangerously tiny portions and massively overcharging.
