This pub has gone way down. The beer is terrible, the atmosphere has changed and it has a "couldn't care less" feel. It is such a super little pub and it is just a shame that it has gone like this.

Really good and quick service even though the place was quite busy when we visited. Personally I like the idea of no TV sport etc. Some of the dishes are expensive though, but probably worth it if you have the money! Roast was good.

Menu said more than what was deliverd, average food at a high price. Environment was very good, however this did nothing to take away the bitter taste of vomit at midnight when my husband had a good dose of food poisening (which the owners strongly denied the next morning)

Booked a table for 8 people to celebrate a 70th birthday.Table booked for 7.30pm put us on a table next to 10 rowdy school children celebrating a birthday who had no parental supervision.Waited 1 hour for the starters then kept waiting for the main meal by this time we had had enough so after numerous complaints we got up and left.I for one will not be visiting this restaurant again.

lovely food but disappointed when almost on the stroke of 9pm we were presented with the bill AFTER just ordering dessert & drinks(which never arrived) & were practically ordered to leave as people were waiting and they needed out table..

Having been to this pub many many times, with both my wife and family and friends, we have had some superb meals in quality and quantity, but tonight 29th September 2007,was the worse value for money meal I've encountered for many a year. I had a 16 oz Barnsley chop that consisted of 50% fat 25% bone and 25% meat.I would not show myself up and complain,but will not be going back until the chef is changed.A very unhappy customer.

Since I found this place, I go all the time. The food is amazing and the price is great. With a 4 course lunchtime/teatime special costing about £5 it's a place not to be missed.

The service was good, until we challenged the length of time we had been waiting for our food, when it became very defensive, and we were made to believe that it was our fault. When arriving at the restaurant there were no clean tables to sit at resulting in us having to sit at an unlaid, dirty table. We appreciate that there was a 50th party on at the time but they must remember that despite this there are other customers to serve. We had been made aware that there was a thirty minute wait for food but we had not been made aware that we would have to wait thirty to forty five minutes between every course. We were offered a complimentary pudding but by the time we had received our meals we had gone past eating and a reduction in our bill would have been more appreciated.

My husband and myself frequent Cuckoo's on a regular basis. We love this little coffee shop all our special requests are always fully met,and we have nothing to complain about-apart from the constant changing of faces in there!!!The staff don't seem to stay very long-which is a shame as the service provided varies considerably on our visits...i find the remaining original staff very friendly,pleasant,efficent and a great asset to Cuckoo's.Keep up the Good work girls-

Orlando's is a delightful cuisine, and little bit of magic from Orlando, we had a great time!

Steak night great value. Recommend the homemade Steak in Ale (Speckled Hen) pie, and chilli too. Full menu is only on Thurs and Fri evening, Sat lunchtime and evening, All day (until about 7pm) Sundays. Other days/times it's pie and peas menu. Great range of real ales and real fire.

I have dined at La Rue many times and it is def a favourite of mine. Your' always quaranteed an extensive variety of dishes that will be cooked, prepared and served to the highest standard. The price of £16.75 for three courses is a bargain!

Toto's is what Italian restaurants should be like. OK the chains do a good, slick job and their staff are trained well, but there is such a warm, family welcome when you go to Toto's that the difference is immediately evident. No amount of training can achieve that. The food at Toto's is really excellent and the service is flexible and obliging. They were quite happy to bring a bottle of (excellent) wine and some olives and bread for us to nibble whilst we took our time browsing the menu and the specials board. The decor is a warm, traditional 'bistro' style - a welcome change from the wood and brushed stainless steel look that prevails today. It was noticeable that among the many ornaments and items of interest around, we could see not a single speck of dust and the windows were sparkling. A good start! Judi eventually chose the sirloin with a Gorgonzola sauce whilst I had the pork fillet with Amoretto - delicious - as were the puddings! In fact so delicious that we cancelled a booking elsewhere for the following evening and managed to get the same table at Toto's instead! The following day, I tried the sirloin with Gorgonzola whilst Judi opted for a seafood pasta dish that she declared to be superb! I can certainly vouch for the steak! The service was unintrusive yet friendly and we felt that they were delighted to see us and would look forward to our return on our next visit to York - a happy illusion that made us determined to oblige one day! I think you can take it that we highly recommend Toto's Italian restaurant!

The Shorthorn Inn is definitely one of the friendliest and most satisfying restaurants I have been to and I will continue to dine there at least 2 or 3 times a month. The food quality is excellent and is very good value for money but the best thing of all is the service and the friendliness of the staff. If you have not visited the Shorthorn before I highly recommend you do.

A group of family & friends enjoyed a truly wonderful evening dining at the Frenchgate. David & his staff made it all a weekend to remember & made sure we all had a great time. The whole experience was fantastic & the food & choice of menu was exceptional & presented beautifully. This is certainly a restaurant we would highly recommend & will hopefully visit again soon.

An outstanding evening for myself and my colleagues. The food was superb, the staff including David the Host impeccable. The ambience is an example that I wish was followed in other establishments. Don't pass through North Yorkshire without visiting - you'll regret it.
