I have been to The Romper three times now and delighted each time, though at around 7pm so not busy. I have found the service excellent and tend to have a starter and a main course and only regret it because of the quantity.I keep vowing I will forgo the starter but find the goats cheese salad too tempting.

My wife and I visited The Romper whilst on a walk on Easter Sunday 2013. We expected the pub to be busy but found it very quiet. The first table we picked to sit at after buying two drinks we were told that it was reserved, even though it had no sign on. We then moved to another and then the waiter changed his mind saying we could sit at the original table. By this time we had sat down at an alternative table. We ordered dressed crab as a starter and the beef Sunday lunch. Just as the crab arrived my wife noticed her bottle of Becks had a best before date of December 2012, over 3 months out of date. The barmaid changed it for a Peroni. The crab was very nice but the writing was on the wall. When the Sunday lunch came it was swimming in very dark gravy poured over two slices of a braised style beef, Yorkshire pudding and two roast potatoes which appeared to have been deep fried to reheat them. The vegetables were mangetout peas, carrots, broccoli and young sweetcorn. My pieces of beef were reasonably tender, however my wife's were extremely tough and grisly, like it was a different piece of meat. We asked for two different pieces of meat instead. After a wait a re-plated bowl appeared with just as much gravy covering everything again. These new pieces of meat were worse, I couldn't even cut it through. My wife was still hungry, so she decided to try a dessert, bad mistake. The choice of 5 desserts included rhubarb crumble, which my wife had decided upon, however the waiter came back to tell us the lemon cheesecake and rhubarb crumble were not available. My wife chose caramel apple pie with custard. The dessert arrived steaming hot, but when examined the whole 'pie' was a gloopy mass of microwaved uncooked pastry. We sent this back and decided enough was enough. We paid the bill and left, never to return.

Not impressed I had a so called sherards pie which more resembled soup and was covered with sliced potato and not mash could be better know as hotspot. Also there was more fat than meat in this dish will not be going again.

Magnificent roast - Big Red Sundays are a must now! Top staff, and most importantly, superb, local beef!

Four Ladies With Taste

Tried Peruga twice recently and both absolutely dreadful. Food acceptable to bad. Worst fish pie ever - dry, no sauce and bones in! At lunch on the 15th November, although sitting in a completely empty restaurant, when another couple arrived the extremely miserable 'Manager' (we nicknamed him Happy Face!) put them so close to our table we were almost touching. When we objected, mainly to save the couple having to listen to four ladies chatting, we were told they had especially requested that table. What rubbish, every other table was empty. One of the four main courses was 'off the menu' and the mushroom strogonoff arrived barely warm. In August I had dinner with my husband and almost every course was awful and we waited 45 minutes for our dessert. Sadly I shall not be visiting Peruga again even though we have been customers on and off for fifty years. We have two big family occasions next year and had hoped to hold them at Peruga because of the lovely location - absolutely not!

Outstanding Tapas, Outstanding Service. If you love authentic high quality Spanish Tapas, this place is Number 1.

Statham

wouldn't recommend this as place to dine service is terrible, staff straight out of school and have no etiquette, food cold, surroundings uninviting, bathrooms too small, and only one working on our visit at very busy time of year, overall better service at mc'ds

I found the food disappointing, my partner asked for his steak to be cooked rare - medium rare, when it was served, one very small piece was well done and the other very small piece was medium to well done. The 2 very small pieces of steak were accompanies with a large portion of mashed potato, quite obviously to pad out the portion. My reservation was on a Saturday night, the restaurant was not full, but was incredibly noisy and lacked atmosphere. To be honest, I was disappointed with the overall experience I had whilst visiting this restaurant and did not feel that I received value for money.,

We visited today, and it is a modern gastropub with roaring log fires, excellent service and fantastic food. We will definitely be back!! It is the one on the bridge in Marple.

Ten of us had a wonderful experience on Boxing day 2009. Service and food as usual were great. Staff googling the name of the snake in "The Jungle book" was the icing on the cake.
