Indyisy

We went to Sanminis on Saturday night after having a taster at the Civic Hall in Rams bottom. It is the best Indian food I have ever tasted. The flavours and presentation of the food were incredible. The service was excellent. The menu was explained to us in detail by the owners. The food was cooked to order. I cannot wait to go back. The only problem now is I will be so disappointed with other Indian meals that it will have to be Sanminis all the time but then I want to taste all the menu.

We visited the Fishermans Retreat last week for a celebratory family meal and had a wonderful evening. Fabulous tasty food and really good service from all the staff. Can heartily recommend the steak, red wine and mushroom pie - delicious and this is one of the only places I know where you don't get pale frozen chips. These are real (pity about the calories)!

Deceptively modern on the inside, the Budda Lounge offered attentive service, tasty well presented food, if a little on the high side for Ramsbottom. A huge menu (possibly too much choice) with Cantonese and Thai favourites and more.... We opted for a platter of Thai appetisers followed by a curried lamb dish, the meat was so tender and delicately seasoned. One note to the owners, the smell of plumbing as we entered was a little offputting! We shall return again to try out the chinese menu next time.

The first time we dined here, we were very impressed by the relaxed ambience, stylish decor and service. The food was excellent and offered good value for an evening meal - the pork belly was delicious. We returned for lunch a couple of weeks later after shopping in Manchester, choosing to support our local hostelry however the story at this time was quite different. The service was amateurish and haphazard, the table (and floor) was covered with the remnants from the previous diners, of which we had to ask to have removed. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad which was tasty but at £7.95 represented a meagre portion; I took issue with the manager who said I should have notified them when it arrived and offered no recourse; I even gave him a solution to knock a couple of pounds of the bill to keep a local customer loyal and happy. His response? "If I knocked money off every time customers complained we'd never make any money!" I was angry with his lack of regard to the issue at hand and thought that the owners should be aware of this. I emailed them and was told it would be investigated; they replied some time after and advised me that as a result there would be a starter portion and a main portion on the menu. I applauded them for this however I asked how they planned to deal with my plight. I received no reply. Until I began receiving spam emails from them that is....... We will not be returning here as they do not value their customers.

Great place. Great food. Exceptional since the long awaited refurbishment. However very recently they've put energy saving bulbs allover and its like being back in the office! Not good for a romantic candlelit night out! Tell them to change

I won't be recommending The Lounge to anyone! Our visit on Friday 6th Feb 09 was the worst experience we've probably ever had, no really! Poor service, no atmosphere, loud noise and management's attitude when we complained were all what you don't want when your out. On arrival, we enquired about waiting times, '20-25mins' so we ordered a beer. After several enquiries, numerous excuses but no apology and a gruelling 75mins we eventually sat down, adjacent the kitchen entrance and staff loitering area. We should have gone with our instinct after 50mins but as it was our first visit, we gave it the benefit of doubt. How sorry we were!!! I could go on but won't. Our opinion is if you want poor service with an attitude and to sit next to the kitchen entrance, get served a tough steak without a steak knife go here, otherwise find somewhere else.

Stylish minimalist interior set inside a traditional stone gate house cottage in the centre of town. The service is very attentive from this family run restaurant. A wide selection of hot and delicately spiced dishes from the south of India, a refreshing change from the typical curry house fayre, all freshly prepared on site. Once booked, the table is yours for the duration of the evening providing a relaxed experience. My only criticism would be that the lighting could be more subdued. Very enjoyable as long as you like a certain amount of heat in your food.

Meany SanMinis ! We booked a table for 2 at this new restaurant but were unable to attend at the last minute due to our son being taken ill. The next day we received a phone message in which we were 'told off' for not attending and then later a phone call demanding to know why we had not turned up. I explained but even then the person was quite rude and showed no concern for anyone but himself. I understand that it is courteous to phone if cancelling but this is sometimes not possible and I do not think that treating customers like naughty children is the way to attract customers. Not recommended!

Had a lovely lunch with the family and received attentive service from the staff. The hot chocolate was superb and there was a good selection of gifts in the downstairs shop.

We went to the restaurant twice last week! Its that good. The food is excellent, everything is fresh and its great that most of it is sourced on site. I had a few choices from the specials board, seafood chowder followed by rump steak with a mushroom and tarragon sauce. My boyfriend had the steak which hes claimed as the best hes had, quite a statement. The portions are extremely big so we shared a creme brulee, just lovely but the winner was the homemade shortbread with it. I wish they sold packets of the stuff!

Absolutely top class - food is always faultless, with new dishes often added alongside the classics. Service is excellent, staff very professional. I have eaten all over the world, but China Cottage takes some beating. It is always good, never has an off-day - and we've been there plenty of days!!

We visited this restaurant last week for the first time. It took about 40 mins to drive there and boy was it worth it. Homemade oxtail soup for starters was to die for. We had the mixed grill between 2 of us (there would have been enough to feed 4) everything was perfect. Could not be faulted. Yes we did have to wait a while between courses, but that was pointed out on the menu and the wait was worth it. If we wanted fast food or were born without taste buds we'd have gone to Macdonalds.

we have now frequented this venue on numerous occasions and although we have visited many restaurants this is my favourite. Initially on perusing the menu for the first time it seems expensive however i went for the cheapest cut of steak a 10oz rump at approx £13 (£16.50 with a lancashire cheese & bacon sauce) and it was unusually tender for rump. All the food is home made although surprisingly the onion rings are unfortunately of the frozen, buy in type. I dont see the need to pay for the considerably more expensive steaks as the quality is exceptional. This place is A1 for service & is very relaxing & cosy. If you have a healthy appetite this is the place to go.

I usually get take out from here it is the best Chinese around. I have fillet steak in ok sauce with egg fried rice, they are quick and will do anything that you want that is not on the menu, they have a very friendly team there which is why they come top on my list.

I visited this place on a Saturday afternoon. After thinking to myself where can I go for a drink where there is no noise, traffic or drunken louts and I remembered passing the sign for the Fisherman’s Retreat. Upon arrival the girls were very friendly and accommodating. After soaking up the sun in a breathtaking setting we went inside for a meal. The food was delicious. I had a ham sandwich (on homemade bread)and the bakewell tart for afters - I don’t think I ate for a week afterwards - the desserts are a definite must. Also its nice to see a place with a fabulous wine list and a bar man who knows how to make a proper Gin & Tonic. And can I just say in reply to Ray - real mince will taste tough compared to the supermarket crap/mush im sure your used to!! Keep up the good work.
