Located in one of Liverpool's richest art and cultural districts, The Art School is s a true labour of love and the first venue of its kind in Liverpool. Expect fine dining at this two-AA-rosette restaurant with the finest produce and ingredients set alongside a superb selection of wines and champagnes. Menus range from the Prix Fixe (available lunch and early evening) to tasting menus with optional wine flights. The Victorian interior is breathtaking, set in the Lantern Room of the 1888 Home for Destitute Children. The stunning glass lantern ceiling, with its soft natural lighting, was inspired by the building's previous life as a sculpture room. The restaurant owes its elegant ambience to Paul Askew, owner and executive chef, who was previously the chef and director at Liverpool's Hope Street Hotel and The London Carriage Works. Paul is also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and a passionate advocate of North West produce. In 2014, Paul was awarded the title of 'Outstanding Champion and Pioneer' at the Liverpool Food and Drink Awards as well as a 'Northern Restaurant and Bar' special industry achievement award. The restaurant is just off of Hope Street, home to the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Everyman Theatre, making it the perfect pre-show fine dining destination. A new bespoke champagne and wine cellar, The Art School Cellars, opened in September 2017 bringing ‘gastronomic grazing’ to Liverpool with a handpicked selection of premium Champagnes, fine wines, British cheeses and artisan Charcuterie.
Date: January 22nd 2020. Time: 7.30pm, Cost: £120.00, Location: The Lantern Room.
Great British Menu star…
Originally from a small town called Crumlin outside of Belfast, Tommy is one of the country’s more recent culinary stars. Tommy cut his culinary teeth in the US, before venturing to Australia and Thailand, returning to the UK for a brief stint under Richard Corrigan and latterly David Everitt-Matthias. A regular on the small screen he opened his first restaurant, Heaney’s, in Cardiff in October 2018 and launched his second standalone venture Uisce earlier this year.
The First Englishman to achieve 3 Michelin Star standard.
Steven Doherty is a Master of Culinary Arts. He was the first Englishman to hold and run a three Michelin Star restaurant, at Le Gavroche. Steven joined Albert Roux’s iconic Le Gavroche as a Commis Chef, working his way up to become Albert’s sous chef. He was head chef for four years, maintaining the incredibly high standards needed, until Michel Roux Jr took over from him. A genuine culinary legend Steven became only the fifth chef in the country to win the Master of Culinary Arts award in 1991. Only twenty chefs have been awarded the title to date.
