About The Music Room Restaurant at Augill Castle

The wonderful gothic-style Augill Castle was built in the 1800s mimicking nearby Lowther Castle. Located in the lovely village of South Stainmore, near Brough, it's surrounded by beautiful country and perfectly positioned between the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District National park and at the foot of the Pennine fells. Bought as a restoration project by Simon and Wendy Bennett more than two decades ago, it has been a labour of love on a large scale and their personality is stamped on this character-filled property. Augill is a private house that welcomes guests - a B&B with bells and whistles if you like - and it comprises a restaurant, business retreat and of course a gem of a private house for hire. Augill has 17 uniquely styled rooms, each rendered to a high standard of finish with period and antique furnishings. The downstairs features traditional interiors with contemporary touches. Dinner is served in a grand dining hall and a sweet or savoury Afternoon Tea is available every day, with or without champagne. Augill Castle is also a perfect choice for a small wedding or house party and its stunning location amongst the finest English countryside lends perfectly to outdoor pursuits.

Upon arrival, there wasn't anyone to greet us at reception we rang the door bell and waited a while before someone came. We weren't directed to the dining room but shown to a low seating area which was not ideal for eating. The afternoon tea arrived and fell somewhat short of our expectations and therefore we cannot recommend this venue ,especially as this gift was for our 50th anniversary.

Lovely different afternoon tea in a quirky setting. Highlights were the soup in the glass bottles and the fabulous scones.

The afternoon tea lived up to expectations based on the reviews we had read and also from the website. Well worth the money for a 'different' delicious afternoon tea - service was great too. A bit of a hidden gem we think!

We had an excellent afternoon Tea at the castle and were made very welcome by our hosts. The selection of items on the menu was well chosen and just a little different from the 'usual afternoon tea'. We especially liked the soup in a jar idea. It was January when we visited, so was quiet, but we loved the peaceful ands homely ambience of the castle. We would definitely recommend the castle and the afternoon tea.

The Afternoon Tea we had was amazing! Great selection of food, cakes were just right and the soup in the glass jar was a nice touch. Fabulous service. Will definitely be back. :)

Our second visit here and this time we stayed for two nights and ate in the Music Room on both evenings. The food is excellent and the dishes we ordered were a great combination of local ingredients, perfectly cooked with the added bonus of a great bunch of warm and welcoming staff. A perfect place to have dinner.
