Bacchus, was a real revelation. The quality of food offered is always my first priority and I was not disappointed.
The range of choices on the menu was not daunting but sufficiently varied and very very interesting. The dishes we chose were very interesting, of a very high quality and beautifully presented.
The wine list is definitely the best in Newcastle. From memory, the prices start in the high $20's and climb into the rarified heights of Hill of Grace and Grange. Yet the variety/price combination across the majority of the list was very accessible and great value. In my opinion the wine list provides those with a passing interest in wine, the opportunity to try interesting wines from all parts of the world, at prices similar to the local product.
The service was quietly efficient, friendly and non-intrusive. In other words, excellent.
The ambience of the restaurant is unique to Newcastle and combines a sense of openness in the main eating area, with a more intimate feeling in the adjacent, screened lounge areas.
This restaurant is a jewel and worth the visit.
I've already booked again and am taking a group of friends with me. I know they will enjoy it.
